Zavion Thomas

22-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
2026 Fantasy Outlook
The Bears drafted Thomas in the third round, 89th overall, bringing in 4.28 speed (2026 Combine) to liven up competition for the No. 3 receiver spot. With DJ Moore (Bills) and Olamide Zaccheaus (Falcons) leaving this offseason, the Bears were left with 2025 UDFA Jahdae Walker and free-agent signing Kalif Raymond as their top candidates for the No. 3 role. It may be tempting to pencil in a rookie third-round pick instead, but in Thomas' case, the draft capital may have largely been fueled by special teams expectations. He had more return yards (1,536) than receiving yards (1,213) across four seasons at Mississippi State and LSU, with his role on offense often limited to a modest volume of short targets. Thomas largely played on the perimeter, yet didn't get many chances to use his speed downfield. At 5-foot-10, 190, he's not necessarily too small for the perimeter in the NFL; it's just not yet clear if he has the skill level as a pass catcher to warrant playing time beyond gadget plays and returns. The Bears selected Thomas in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 89th overall.
ANALYSIS
Though he primarily operated on the boundary as a starter at LSU, Thomas showed his versatility in motions and backfield action, and he also has the experience on special teams as a returner on kickoffs and punts that should help him contribute immediately to the Bears. Thomas' speed and acceleration means he is a threat to make a game-altering play any time he touches the ball, which makes him an intriguing playmaker in the offensive scheme of head coach Ben Johnson. There's a real chance that Thomas beats out Jahdae Walker and Kalif Raymond to earn the Bears' WR3 job behind Rome Odunze and Luther Burden.

Makes impression in first offseason
WRChicago Bears
June 26, 2026
Thomas, whom the Bears selected out of LSU in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, raised expectations about his potential rookie-year contributions this offseason, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Thomas boasts elite speed -- he clocked a 4.28-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine -- and was largely expected to make his biggest rookie contributions on special teams after averaging 27.2 yards per kickoff return and 10.1 yards per punt return during his four-year college career. However, Thomas also had a pair of 40-catch campaigns in that span, and head coach Ben Johnson is on record as saying Thomas' penchant for making plays as a receiver on a near daily basis this offseason leads him to think the third-round pick "could be a big weapon for us this year."
