Ahmed started the 2024 season in Denver and landed on Indianapolis' practice squad after being cut mid-October, but he didn't suit up for a single game with either team. The veteran running back is a long time removed from his rookie year, when he racked up a career-best 319 rushing yards and three scores. After suffering a training camp injury, Ahmed was placed on IR in August. Read Past Outlooks

                                    Officially placed on IL
The Colts placed Ahmed (ankle) on injured reserve Friday.
				ANALYSIS
As expected, Ahmed will miss the entire 2025 season after suffering an ankle injury during this past Sunday's training camp practice, when he was on the receiving end of an illegal hip-drop tackle. Ahmed was competing for a spot on the Colts' 53-man roster after spending the 2024 season on Indianapolis' and Miami's practice squads, but he will now shift his focus towards being healthy for the 2026 campaign, unless he somehow returns quicker than expected and works out an injury settlement with the team. Khalil Herbert, Ulysses Bentley and newest addition Nate Noel will have increased opportunities to compete with Tyler Goodson and DJ Giddens for backup running back duties due to Ahmed's injury.

This Week's Opposing Pass Defense

How does the Steelers pass defense compare to other NFL teams this season?

The bars represents the team's percentile rank (based on QB Rating Against). The longer the bar, the better their pass defense is. The team and position group ratings only include players that are currently on the roster and not on injured reserve. The list of players in the table only includes defenders with at least 3 attempts against them.

How do Salvon Ahmed's measurables compare to other running backs?

This section compares his draft workout metrics with players at the same position. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that metric and it would be considered average.

Ahmed's ability to hang around on the Miami roster the last four years is really quite remarkable given his lack of recognizable upside. He does have the speed coach Mike McDaniel covets, but he doesn't have the vision, elusiveness or instincts to put it to good use out of the backfield. Ahmed has turned himself into an adequate passing-down option, but 2024 fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright would seem to offer everything Ahmed does and more, and Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane are still atop the depth chart. Ahmed's time as a Dolphin could be running out.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
    Roster spot seems secure
Ahmed is in a strong position to make Miami's roster as the fourth running back, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald speculates.
				ANALYSIS
Jackson specifically points to Ahmed's speed and skills as a route runner and pass catcher as the primary reasons he'll make the roster. Helping his cause further is the fact that he is set to make only $895,000 -- in contrast to Sony Michel and Myles Gaskin, who are set to make $2.1 and $2.5 million, respectively. Ahmed isn't expected to open the season with a significant role, but both Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert have fairly extensive injury histories, so he could see a bigger workload later in the year.
