Selected in the seventh round out of Rutgers in the 2025 Draft, Monangai could prove to be a steal for the Bears. While he doesn't have breakaway speed or much in the way of receiving skills, Monangai is surprisingly nimble in traffic and has strong contact balance, potentially making him a weapon on early downs and in short-yardage situations. New head coach Ben Johnson had plenty of success in Detroit with a backfield tandem, and while D'Andre Swift can capably fill the lightning role, Monangai will battle with Roschon Johnson to be the thunder. Courtney Cronin of ESPN relays that the Bears want to get Monangai more involved in the offense in Sunday's NFC North clash against the Lions.

The rookie seventh-rounder played nine snaps on offense during his NFL debut against the Vikings in Week 1 and finished with one catch for 11 yards. The Bears want to establish a better rushing attack Week 2, and even with Roschon Johnson cleared to return from a foot injury, head coach Ben Johnson told reporters Friday "I need to call more [running plays] so that we get [Monangai] in the game a little bit more." Cronin notes that more reliance on the rushing attack with Monangai, Roschon Johnson and D'Andre Swift should alleviate some pressure off the shoulders of quarterback Caleb Williams.
