After starting all 17 of Green Bay's regular-season games in 2024, McDuffie had a lesser role last year, starting 12 of 17 contests and playing 161 fewer defensive snaps. That was largely due to the emergence of second-year pro Edgerrin Cooper, who became a full-time starter. McDuffie still put up solid numbers, finishing with 92 regular-season stops, including 1.0 sacks, and a pickoff. The Packers parted ways with starting ILB Quay Walker in the offseason, but they replaced him by trading for veteran Zaire Franklin. McDuffie agreed to a one-year extension with the Packers on Thursday, Zach Jacobson of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
McDuffie inked a two-year, $8.0 million contract extension in March of 2025, so this new deal will tie him to Green Bay through the 2027 campaign. The soon-to-be 27-year-old has been an important rotational linebacker and core special-teams player over his first five seasons, and he tallied 92 tackles, including 1.0 sacks, across 17 regular-season games last year. McDuffie should slot in behind returning starter Edgerrin Cooper and new addition Zaire Franklin at inside linebacker for Green Bay this year.

McDuffie's role has steadily increased since his rookie season of 2021, and the Packers locked him up for two more years before free agency got underway. He should occupy a starting spot in Green Bay's base defense, but fellow linebackers Edgerrin Cooper and Quay Walker profile better from a fantasy perspective.
McDuffie's role increased significantly in 2023, and he played nearly half of Green Bay's defensive snaps while doubling the 43 tackles he recorded the year before. He'll remain in the mix for a Packers team shifting to a 4-3 defense, but leading tackler Quay Walker is back, and Green Bay drafted fellow linebacker Edgerrin Cooper in the second round, meaning McDuffie is the most likely to be subbed out in passing situations.
McDuffie has become a quality depth linebacker for the Packers, and he recorded a 12-tackle game in 2022. However, with De'Vondre Campbell and Quay Walker locked into the starting middle linebacker spots, McDuffie is slated to remain a reserve.
