                2025 Fantasy Outlook

Thielen briefly considered retirement before confirming in February that he'll be back for his age-35 season. After putting up monster numbers in the first half of 2023, his first season with the Panthers, he fell off hard in the second half of the year and then started 2024 slowly before missing Weeks 4-10 with a hamstring injury. While many assumed Thielen was washed up, he came back Week 12 last season and averaged 5.7 catches for 72.3 yards on 7.1 targets over the final seven games (four TDs). The Panthers initially wanted him back this season but ended up trading Thielen to Minnesota in late August after a week of negotiations. He should get a lot of snaps right away in a reunion with his former team, as the Vikings won't have Jordan Addison (suspension) until Week 4 and may not have Jalen Nailor (hand) at the start of the season. Targets will be much harder to come by once Addison returns, unless WR Justin Jefferson or TE T.J. Hockenson misses time. Read Past Outlooks

            No receptions in loss
Thielen did not have a reception on his only target in Thursday's loss to the Chargers.
				ANALYSIS
Thielen has arguably failed to secure more catchable balls than he has receptions (five) this season, as the ball thrown his way could have been listed as a drop. He played on just 12 of the offense's 49 snaps despite the team falling behind early, which doesn't bode well for his future usage.

Last season was Thielen's first in Carolina, following a pair of 700-yard seasons his final two years in Minnesota. Going from Kirk Cousins to Bryce Young was a downgrade in quarterback play, but that didn't stop Thielen from turning back the clock in his age-33 campaign, especially early in the year. He averaged 8.1 catches for 83.0 yards on 10.0 targets over the first seven weeks, scoring four TDs in the process. After that, Thielen was still Carolina's most targeted receiver but to a much lesser extent, averaging 4.6 catches for 43.3 yards on 6.7 targets (with nary a touchdown). During the offseason, the Panthers added WRs Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette, making Thielen highly unlikely to match last year's total of 137 targets even if he's still Young's security blanket for short passes under new coach Dave Canales.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
    Officially back in Minnesota
Thielen was traded from the Panthers to the Vikings on Wednesday, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.
				ANALYSIS
The Panthers will receive a 2026 fifth-round selection and a 2027 fourth-round pick, while the Vikings also net a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick in addition to the veteran wideout. The Vikings, who will be fully responsible for Thielen's 2025 salary, could insert the 35-year-old right into the starting lineup in Week 1 against the Bears, per Seifert, considering Thielen's prior knowledge of Kevin O'Connell's offense and the fact Jalen Nailor could be sidelined for that game with a hand injury.
