Despite being just 21 years of age, this feels like a pivotal campaign for Pickering. General manager Kyle Dubas wants to go young with his lineup this season, but he has also stockpiled blueliners in recent years with Harrison Brunicke, Finn Harding and Emil Pieniniemi -- all of whom could be in the mix for a roster spot in the next couple of years. Pickering should get an extended look during training camp while being afforded every opportunity to earn a spot on the Opening Night roster. The Manitoba native has struggled to produce offensively as a pro, but he put up decent numbers in juniors and could grow into a solid 20-point producer as a full-time NHL option if he can make the roster.
