Secures long-term extension
Fehervary (knee) agreed to terms on a seven-year, $42 million contract extension with Washington on Tuesday, per PuckPedia.
ANALYSIS
Fehervary will now be tied to the Caps through the 2032-33 campaign, when he will be 33 years old. While the cap hit might be a little high in the first year or two of the deal -- last season was the first time he reached the 20-point threshold -- it should age well, as the salary cap is expected to continue to grow in future seasons. Fehervary's lack of power-play ice time limits him from being a top-end fantasy target, except perhaps in banger leagues that utilize hits and blocks.

Fehervary doesn't score much, but he was unquestionably Washington's second-most important defenseman a season ago behind John Carlson. Fehervary missed about a month beginning in late February with a lower-body injury but was otherwise healthy. He appeared in 66 regular-season games, posting three goals, 16 points, 188 hits and 209 blocks. The hit/block totals are intriguing, and would theoretically give Fehervary value in deeper leagues that value such numbers. Still, the Caps added both Jakob Chychrun and Matt Roy to their defensive corps this offseason, meaning Fehervary is a prime candidate for a role reduction.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

May avoid absence
Fehervary, who suffered a facial injury against the Bruins on Tuesday, is practicing ahead of Thursday's clash with Minnesota, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports, indicating he could be good to go.
ANALYSIS
Fehervary has yet to find the back of the net in 37 games this season and is mired in a five-game pointless streak as well. As such, the Slovakian blueliner's potential return to the lineup is unlikely to impact the majority of fantasy managers. If he does miss out, look for Dylan McIlrath to replace Fehervary on the backend.
