				  Ends playing career
Giordano is joining AHL Toronto as a coaching advisor, officially bringing an end to his playing career, the Maple Leafs announced Wednesday.
				  ANALYSIS
Giordano had 158 goals, 577 points and 918 PIM across 1,148 career regular-season appearances with Calgary, Seattle and Toronto. He demonstrated terrific longevity, winning the Norris Trophy with 74 points in 78 regular-season outings with Calgary in 2018-19, which was his age-35 campaign. Giordano never had another season like that, but he continued to perform in the NHL through the 2023-24 campaign.

Set to turn 40 prior to Opening Night, the days of Giordano posting 70-plus points in a season and winning the Norris Trophy have come and gone. He's still a perfectly suitable bottom-pair regular (four goals, 24 points in 78 games a season ago) for the Maple Leafs at the bargain basement rate of $800,000. There's no longer much in terms of fantasy implications here. However, health permitting, Giordano figures to be in the Toronto lineup every single night once again in 2023-24.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

				  Talking with Oilers and Leafs
According to David Alter of The Hockey News, Giordano's agent, Rich Winter, has spoken to Edmonton and Toronto about a possible contract for the veteran defenseman.
				  ANALYSIS
Giordano is eager to compete for the Stanley Cup, a milestone that has eluded the 40-year-old defenseman throughout his 18-year NHL career. He played in only 46 regular-season games with the Maple Leafs in 2023-24, scoring three times and adding six assists. Toronto could be interested in retaining his services, especially if potential depth option Jani Hakanpaa isn't available to play because of a knee injury. Giordano would occupy a similar role while providing leadership on the ice and in the dressing room.
