2026 Fantasy Outlook
A 2025 second-round pick, Shough took the starting job from Spencer Rattler midseason last year and gamely outperformed expectations, ranking QB12 in fantasy points per game in his nine starts. He posted solid accuracy marks overall -- 12th in on-target percentage, 10th in completion percentage -- but deep-ball concerns out of college proved prescient. On attempts less than 20 yards downfield, Shough ranked fourth in on-target percentage (78.8) and second in completion percentage (76.0). On attempts of more than 20 yards, those percentages sank to 35.9 and 25.0, both 29th in the league. The Saints traded speedster Rasheed Shaheed midseason, but Shough still tried to push the ball downfield, as his average target depth was 8.3 yards (10th) and 11.0 percent of his attempts went 20-plus yards (11th). Expect more short-area throws this season as coach Kellen Moore plays to Shough's strength. To that end, the Saints used the eighth pick in the draft on WR Jordyn Tyson, whose intermediate-area skills seemingly fit Shough well. Chris Olave is back as the No. 1 target after a career year, and Juwan Johnson plays more like a WR than a TE. The once-cap-strapped Saints even made a splash in free agency signing RB Travis Etienne to replace Alvin Kamara, who could still stick around as a passing-down specialist or backup. It's a solid group of weapons, and Shough should also add some rushing production after averaging 4.7 carries for 19.3 yards in nine starts (three rushing TDs) last year. The concern for both Saints fans and fantasy managers is what will happen if Shough again struggles on deep throws and fails to maintain elite short-area accuracy to make up for it. Gets help this offseason
As the coming campaign approaches, Shough is slated to work in an offense that was bolstered by the addition of first-round WR Jordyn Tyson, third-round TE Oscar Delp and RB Travis Etienne via free agency, Ross Jackson of Louisianasports.net reports.
ANALYSIS
As a rookie, Shough appeared in 11 regular-season contests and went 5-4 as the Saints' starting QB after taking over for Spencer Rattler in November. In the process, he completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 2,384 yards, with 10 touchdowns and six picks, while adding 45 carries for 186 yards and three rushing TDs. This coming season, the 2025 second-rounder approaches training camp atop a signal-caller depth chart that still includes Rattler, as well as Zach Wilson and Hunter Dekkers. In addition to the Saints' investment in added weapons at the skill positions for Shough, the team looked to fortify its protection unit by signing veteran guard David Edwards and TE Noah Fant, who is underrated as a blocker, per Jackson. With continued growth in in his second campaign as a pro, Shough has a chance provide solid fantasy value in 2026 relative to his average draft position.

A second-round pick, Shough (pronounced “shuck”) was the third QB selected in this year’s draft. He was plagued by injuries in his seven-year college career, finally staying healthy enough last season to throw for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns at Louisville. He completed only 62.7 percent of his passes, making accuracy a concern, especially downfield. At 6-foot-5, 219 pounds, Shough has good size with a strong arm and solid mechanics, but he's not as mobile as his 4.61 40 might seem to suggest. He’ll also turn 26 a few weeks into the season, which likely limits his room for growth. Even so, he’s the probable Week 1 starter after Derek Carr abruptly retired in May. The Saints likely will look into signing a veteran, as Shough, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener were the only QBs on the roster at the time of Carr's retirement. If Shough finds himself under center, he’ll have a few good receiving options, namely Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. Alvin Kamara likely will handle a lot of the workload for new head coach Kellen Moore, who likes to lean on his running backs, confining Shough to a game-manager role.

Team drafts WR in top 10
Shough will have a new key target after the Saints drafted Jordyn Tyson eighth overall Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Tyson out of Arizona State should immediately slide in as a starter opposite Chris Olave, bolstering New Orleans' wide receiver room. No wide receiver that ended the 2025 regular season on the Saints' roster other than Olave had more than 293 receiving yards, but that didn't stop Shough from posting a 5-4 record after taking over as New Orleans' starting quarterback while producing a 10:6 TD:INT.
