2025 Fantasy Outlook
Kelce came 16 yards shy of an eighth consecutive 1,000-yard season in 2023, then regressed further in 2024, down to 823 yards and three TDs - his lowest totals since a one-game rookie campaign in 2013. Unlike the year before, Kelce failed to step up in the playoffs, adding 175 yards and one touchdown in three games. The 35-year-old's declining production led to whispers of retirement in the offseason, but Kelce was quick to announce he'd play another year. Despite his downward trajectory, there's still a lot to like regarding Kelce's usage patterns, as he led all TEs with 26 red-zone targets in 2024. His 133 targets overall were third most at his position, and at least 35 more than every other pass catcher on the Chiefs. Given Kelce's chemistry with Patrick Mahomes and ongoing uncertainty over the availability and efficacy of KC's WR corps, there's still some value that can be squeezed out now that Kelce's being drafted as just another fantasy TE1 rather than THE TE1. Wanted back in Kansas City
The Chiefs have remained in touch with Kelce during the offseason and are hopeful to re-sign him for the 2026 season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
For the second offseason in a row, the 36-year-old tight end is taking some time to ponder his playing future before he comes to a decision on whether to continue his career or head into retirement. If the impending free agent elects to keep playing in 2026, Kelce's preference would almost certainly be to return to Kansas City for a 13th season, and the Chiefs are seemingly willing to keep a roster spot open for him. Though the Chiefs finished a disappointing 6-11 in 2025 and played without star quarterback Patrick Mahomes (knee) for their final three contests, Kelce still enjoyed a bounce-back season in terms of efficiency. He played the full 17-game slate and recorded 76 catches for 851 yards and five touchdowns on 108 targets, with his 7.9 yards per target representing a big uptick from his 2024 mark of 6.2.

Kelce has been the gold standard at tight end for the better part of the last decade, but he looked like he'd lost a step for much of 2023 and finished 16 receiving yards short of an eighth consecutive 1,000-yard campaign. His postseason performance was vintage, however, as the 34-year-old had 355 yards and three touchdowns in four playoff games to help the Chiefs win another Super Bowl. Kelce missed the 2023 season opener with a knee injury and was rested for the regular-season finale, but he played 15 straight games in between, marking the 10th consecutive campaign in which he’s played at least that many. Even if Kelce’s best days are behind him, he should still be the most trusted pass catcher for QB Patrick Mahomes, after leading the Chiefs in targets (121), catches (93) and receiving yards (984) last season (each mark was top four among NFL tight ends). Free-agent signing Marquise Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy both are undersized speed merchants who don't figure to draw many targets in the parts of the field where Kelce thrives, while second-year pro Rashee Rice has a legal situation threatening his 2024 availability. Kelce remains the safe bet to pile up short and intermediate targets in Kansas City, with potential to rebound in the TD department (five last year) even if he doesn't get back to his peak volume (143.4 targets per season 2018-22).

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Returning for 14th season?
Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports that Kelce is trending toward returning for the Chiefs in 2026.
ANALYSIS
Speculation around Kelce's potential retirement has been circling over the last two years, and that speculation gained steam toward the tail end of the 2025 season. However, if the future Hall of Fame tight end were to return, he would have the opportunity to reunite with returning offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, the two of whom worked together with the Chiefs from 2018 to 2022. Kelce recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of those five seasons and logged 100 catches and 10-plus touchdowns in three of those campaigns.
