2026 Fantasy Outlook
There's more to dislike than like about Bernard's profile, which is an odd conclusion to make about a player who's projected inside the top 25 at linebacker. First is that he's struggled to stay on the field. In 2025, he missed three games due to a pectoral strain and one due to a quad strain. That came after he played in only 13 games in 2024. While availability has been an issue, Bernard also hasn't excelled even when on the field. Since taking over as Buffalo's primary inside linebacker, he hasn't posted a missed tackle rate better than 12.9 percent, and his career rate sits at 14.7 percent. In 2025 specifically, his average depth of tackle was 4.0, and he made a tackle on only 6.1 percent of his defensive snaps. Bernard's work in coverage has never been strong, yet the Bills continue to give him heavy usage when healthy. That's the lone reason for the optimistic projection, but Bernard does look ready to once again lead Buffalo's linebacker corps heading into the 2026 season. Read Past Outlooks

Returns for OTAs
LBBuffalo Bills
May 20, 2026
Bernard (calf) was spotted participating in the Bills' OTAs on Wednesday, Matt Parrino of Syracuse.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bernard missed Buffalo's final three games (including playoffs) last season due to a calf injury. However, his participation in Wednesday's OTAs suggests he's recovered from the issue. The Baylor product dealt with multiple injuries during the 2025 campaign, appearing in just 12 regular-season games and recording 65 total tackles and three passes defensed, including one interception. Now fully healthy, Bernard is expected to remain a crucial part of the Bills' linebacker corps in 2026.

2023
There has been at least some degree of question about Bernard's role entering each of the last two seasons, despite the fact that he has been ultra productive in all of his opportunities. He beat out Tyrel Dodson for a starting role after the departure of Tremaine Edmunds, and then held off third-round pick Dorian Williams to remain a starter in the last couple of seasons. There aren't any questions entering 2025, as Buffalo extended Bernard for four years and $50 million this offseason. Bernard should be a lock to top 100 tackles, assuming health, and he has also shown ability as a pass rusher and in coverage. He has a very safe floor, and we may not have yet seen his ceiling.
Opportunity emerged in the Buffalo linebacker corps in 2023, some of which was expected after the departure of Tremaine Edmunds. However, some was also unforeseen as Matt Milano was lost for a significant portion of the campaign. It was unclear who would emerge to fill those voids initially, but Bernard emphatically answered the call. After playing 109 defensive snaps in his rookie season, he increased that mark to 943 while also posting 143 total tackles in 2023. There is some risk that 2023 third-round pick Dorian Williams pushes Bernard for snaps, but initial reports suggest Williams will remain a reserve linebacker for the time being. There is downside in Bernard's projection as a result of Williams' presence, so monitoring the news during training camp will be important.
A 2022 third-round draft pick, Bernard didn't see a lot of action as a rookie, but it looks as though the 24-year-old will be counted on as a starting linebacker for the Bills in 2023 following the free-agent departure of Tremaine Edmunds. In 16 games (including one start) last season, the Baylor product was only in on 22 tackles, but if he's able to stick as a starter this year, the 6-1, 224-pounder could be a decent source of tackles for those in IDP leagues.
