Cross spent the first two years of his career primarily on playing special teams, but the Colts sought to upgrade on the play of Rodney Thomas at free safety heading into 2024. Cross won that competition convincingly and played 100 percent of defensive snaps in all but one game (he played 99 percent of snaps in Week 2) and finished ninth in the league with 146 tackles. Cross will remain a key cog in the Colts' defense and should continue to rack up tackles, with the offseason addition of Cameron Bynum being particularly impactful. Bynum will play a traditional center-field role while allowing Cross to step inside the box to support the run defense -- his primary strength. In 2024, he ranked fourth in run stuffs among safeties (per PFF) with 26, and he should have the chance to maintain and potentially even build on that number in 2025. Returns to practice Thursday
Cross (shoulder) logged a full practice session Thursday.
				ANALYSIS
Cross sat out Wednesday's practice due to a shoulder injury, but his return to full participation one day later suggests that the issue was minor. With that in mind, Cross should be good to take on his usual starting safety role Sunday against the Steelers.

This section compares his draft workout metrics with players at the same position. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that metric and it would be considered average.

Cross began his sophomore season playing mostly on special teams, but he increased his role on defense after Indianapolis' bye in Week 11. He then stepped into a starting role for the final three games of the season due to an injury to Julian Blackmon (shoulder). He ended up racking up 39 tackles (24 solo), two pass breakups and one interception in 17 games. He'll compete with Rodney Thomas and Daniel Scott for the starting free safety job alongside strong safety Julian Blackmon.
