2025 Fantasy Outlook
The 49ers signed Jones to serve as the team's backup after passing on the prospect early in the 2021 NFL Draft. San Francisco didn't appear to miss much from the Alabama product after he threw 54 touchdowns to 44 interceptions in his first four years as a pro. Jones hopes to follow in the path of fellow failed prospect Sam Darnold, who flipped his opportunity as Brock Purdy's backup in 2023 into a career renaissance the following year after linking up with QB guru Kyle Shanahan. Full practice Wednesday
Jones (knees) practiced in full Wednesday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Jones sustained a knee contusion this past Sunday at Houston, per David Lombardi of SFStandard.com. Jones then was listed with both knees to begin Week 9 prep, but neither issue impacted his practice reps Wednesday. Meanwhile, No. 1 QB Brock Purdy remained limited due to his lingering turf toe injury, which came on the heels of Shanahan telling Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com on Monday that he didn't "think it's a long shot" for Purdy to play Sunday at the Giants. Purdy likely will need to log a full practice Thursday or Friday in order to be cleared for game action, so the 49ers' next two injury reports will be of keen interest to get a sense of who between Purdy and Jones will be under center this weekend.

The 15th overall draft pick in 2021, Jones played his way out of New England after failing to progress from his somewhat promising rookie season. His average target depth (6.9) and YPA (6.1) were both bottom 5 in the league last year, and his interception rate (3.5 percent) was the highest. By Week 13 he had lost the starting job and by season’s end he had been demoted to third string. The Patriots traded him to Jacksonville in March where he will back up Trevor Lawrence. If Jones sees the field, he will at least have a talented supporting cast, but the lack of arm strength, athleticism and mobility caps his value, even in two-QB leagues.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Fourth straight start on tap
Jones will draw a fourth straight start Sunday against the Texans due to Brock Purdy being ruled out because of his toe injury, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has come back down to earth a bit over his last two starts, tossing three interceptions without a single touchdown in that span. The 2021 first-round pick threw for 279 to 347 yards in his first four starts, but he was down to 152 against a tough Falcons defense in Week 7 -- albeit in a victory -- and faces a similarly stiff challenge versus the Texans on Sunday.
