Opts for retirement
The Buccaneers announced David's retirement from the NFL on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
A second-round pick in 2012, David was a model of consistency over 14 seasons in Tampa Bay, missing only 14 games and reaching the 100-tackle threshold 12 times while being named an All-Pro on three occasions. His overall contributions are Hall of Fame-worthy, but he'll have to wait the minimum five years before such an honor will be under consideration.

David signed a one-year contract to rejoin the Buccaneers for the third straight offseason. While that is indicative of the fact that he's on the back end of his career -- he's entering his age-35 season -- his surface-level production suggests otherwise as he topped 120 tackles for the third consecutive campaign. Unfortunately, the analysis isn't that simple. Per PFF, David missed tackles at a 15.5 percent clip in 2024, the highest of his career and more than double any number he's posted since 2021. His work in coverage, previously a strength, also slipped, as he allowed 9.4 yards per target and a 106.4 passer rating against. That would be a cause for concern, but the Buccaneers have done little to build in a backup plan for David this offseason. Another season of 100-plus tackles is probably in the cards, but David appears to finally be slowing down.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Will only sign with Bucs
David will either re-sign with Tampa Bay or retire this offseason, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
David is recovering from knee surgery, a factor that could heavily sway his ultimate decision. He's played his entire career with the Buccaneers, and unlike Mike Evans he clearly has no interest in suiting up elsewhere. Tampa Bay bolstered its linebacker corps by signing Alex Anzalone early in free agency, though David would still have a prominent role if he opts to return.
