2025 Fantasy Outlook
Murray played a full schedule last season for the first time since 2020 and finished QB10 in fantasy. While that made him relevant in single-QB leagues, he didn’t necessarily hit his potential. Murray’s accuracy looks good on paper -- his on-target (76.2) and completion percentages (68.8) both ranked seventh in the league -- but considering his average target depth was only 7.1 yards (30th), he probably should have had higher rates. More touchdown passes would be nice too. Murray threw multiple TDs in a game just three times, and he needed four TDs in Week 18 just to surpass 20 for the season. Consequently, he scored 18-plus fantasy points just seven times. Murray at least boosted his scoring with 572 rushing yards, fourth among QBs, and added five scores. He said this offseason he intends to run more this year, which would be helpful for fantasy, but it would also bring added injury risk to a player who missed 18 games from 2021 to 2023. As for his passing, Murray needs more help from his receivers. Marvin Harrison disappointed in his rookie year as the fourth overall pick, and fellow wideout Michael Wilson is average at best. Tight end Trey McBride is Murray’s favorite target, but he had just two TD catches last year -- the fewest of any player with at least 110 targets. More running and a few more TD passes could shoot Murray up the QB rankings in fantasy, but he's unlikely to challenge the guys at the very top. Read Past Outlooks

Posts goodbye to Arizona
Murray (foot) shared a goodbye message to the Cardinals organization on his personal social media accounts Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Murray's goodbye message comes in the wake of reports, such as from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, that the 28-year-old quarterback is expected to be released by Arizona. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the transaction will occur on the start of the new league year March 11, barring the materialization of a last-second trade. Murray's contract guarantees $36.8 million owed to him by the Cardinals in 2026, and were he to remain on the roster by March 15 another $19.5 million in guarantees would trigger. Murray missed the final 12 games of 2025 due to a foot sprain, and though he played all 17 regular-season contests in 2024, he also missed a combined 15 regular-season games between 2022 and 2023. As a free agent, the two-time Pro Bowler will work to secure a new landing spot where he can make the most of his change of scenery.

Murray missed the first half of last season recovering from ACL surgery. Perhaps to be expected, he didn’t look like his usual dual-threat self upon returning Week 10, with his passing particularly rusty. His last three games, though, showed marked improvement as he averaged 241 passing yards with six TDs and one interception. Murray rarely looked deep in his eight games, ranking 27th in downfield rate as just 7.8 percent of his attempts traveled beyond 20 yards. His 7.3-yard average target depth ranked 22nd, his 6.7 YPA 24th. When he did go deep, he wasn’t good, completing nine of 28 attempts for one TD and three INTs. In Murray’s defense, he didn’t have much to work with. That’s not the case this year after the Cardinals made Marvin Harrison the fourth overall pick in the draft and signed former Jags wideout Zay Jones. Those two will join TE Trey McBride, a 2022 second-round pick who broke out for 825 yards last season, and WR Michael Wilson, a 2023 third-round pick who had 565 yards on 58 targets last year (9.7 YPT). Murray’s rushing production gives him a solid fantasy floor, now more than a year and a half removed from the knee injury. He’ll need that to be a top 10 fantasy QB, as his lack of height (5-10) and inconsistent track record suggest he's unlikely to be an elite passer even with the upgraded pass-catching corps. He’ll also need good health -- he missed at least three games in each of the last three seasons, playing 33 of a possible 51 contests.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Already drawing interest
The Vikings are interested in signing Murray, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Murray was informed by the Cardinals that he will be released on the first day of the new league year, barring a trade -- a possibility that looks to be remote given the $95 million of cap charges remaining on the final two years of his current contract. Murray is thus likely to become a free agent, and he'd be a strong fit with Minnesota. The Vikings have made it clear they intend to upgrade over J.J. McCarthy this offseason, while Murray would be in a strong offensive environment with excellent playmakers surrounding him.
