Herbert announced Thursday via his personal Twitter account that he will forgo his remaining eligibility to enter the 2021 NFL Draft.

Herbert had already told his coaches a day earlier that he wouldn't be back in Blacksburg next season, so the logical conclusion was that he was heading for the draft. After arriving in Virginia Tech as a transfer from Kansas, the fifth-year senior turned in by far the best season of his career in 2020, averaging 7.7 yards per carry to go with nine total touchdowns over 11 games.

Herbert will likely open the season as the starting running back, however, that will be short-lived when dynamic play-maker Pooka Williams returns from a one-game suspension. The senior is projected to have similar production to his 499 yards and five touchdowns on 113 carries that he posted in 2018. With a new Head Coach in Les Miles, Kansas will lean heavily on the run game as their offensive line is one of their strengths.
