                2025 Fantasy Outlook

Murray took a step back in scoring but a step forward in rebounding last season. He's been a top-100 fantasy asset in each of his first three seasons, and that should continue in 2025-26, though it's become apparent his upside is limited. After shooting 41.1 percent from deep as a rookie, his production from beyond the arc has dropped in each of the past two campaigns, posting 34.3 percent on a career-low 5.9 attempts per game in 2024-25. However, his work from three-point range remains a plus overall, and coupled with elite defensive production, strong rebounding numbers and a consistent bill of health, Murray has established a safe fantasy floor. He will start and play 30-plus minutes, but with Zach LaVine, Malik Monk, DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis all demanding usage, there won't be a ton of offensive opportunities to go around. Murray will also face pressure from rookie Nique Clifford, but it'd take significant regression for the Iowa product to lose his spot in the rotation when he's healthy. Murray will miss the first weeks of the season after tearing a ligament in his left thumb. Read Past Outlooks

				  Receives contract extension
The Kings signed Murray (thumb) to a five-year, $140 million rookie contract extension Wednesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
				  ANALYSIS
Murray is recovering from a torn UCL ligament in his left thumb, which will keep him sidelined into the middle of November, at least. The 25-year-old forward has averaged at least 12 points per game in all three of his professional seasons, and he set a career high in 2024-25 in rebounds with 6.7 per game. He's started in 231 of 233 games since being selected by the Kings in the 2022 NBA Draft. Murray's efforts have earned him a significant extension, locking him in Sacramento for the long term.

Murray saw a massive bump in production during his sophomore season as his role skyrocketed. That's the progression you want from a second-year player, averaging 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.8 blocks and 2.4 threes per game. That's a well-rounded stat line from such a young player, and many people believe Murray can get to over three three-pointers a game because we saw his percentage drop from 41 percent as a rookie to 36 percent last year. This is one of the best shooters in the league, and as long as he's playing 35 minutes and taking 15 shots a night, Murray should be one of the league leaders in threes. It's also impressive to see him average nearly a block and steal per game, especially since he's providing 5-6 rebounds as well. The one issue is that Sacramento decided to trade for DeMar DeRozan in the offseason. He'll fill the 30 minutes that Harrison Barnes was playing, but DeRozan's presence will take away shots and usage from everyone else. We don't expect it to hurt Murray too much, though, because the Kings desperately need him to stretch the floor for DeRozan, De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.

				  In line for more usage?
Murray could be in line to have a higher usage rate in the 2025-26 season, according to Sean Cunningham of Fox 40 Sacramento. "I feel like there's more movement going around, which we didn't have last year," he said. "They're using me more than they did last year, just coming out of the corner and in transition and things like that."
				  ANALYSIS
Murray saw his shot attempts drop from 12.7 per game in 2023-24 to 10.8 last year over 76 regular-season games, and his usage rate fell to a career-low 15.0 percent as well. Based on his recent words and the way things have gone in practice, it seems Murray could be in line for a bigger role in 2025-26. Murray stated earlier in training camp that he wants to be in the running for the Most Improved Player of the Year award.
