2025 Fantasy Outlook
Isaac played more than 70 regular-season games just for the second time in his six-year career, and his injury history is always an issue when projecting him in fantasy. When healthy and available, Isaac can be a valuable asset in category-based leagues since he can do a little bit of everything while being a disruptive presence on the defensive end. However, Isaac has averaged under 20 minutes per game in each of the last three seasons, and the limited playing time significantly limits his fantasy upside across all formats. As a bench alternative in the frontcourt who doesn't contribute much as a scorer and who sees limited minutes, he isn't expected to carry a lot of upside in most formats. He could be a streaming option in category-based leagues, but that's his ceiling if he doesn't log more than 20 minutes per game. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Johnathan Judah Isaac is the son of Jackie Allen. He was born in The Bronx in New York in 1997. Isaac has on older sister, two older brothers and two younger brothers. He spent his freshman and sophomore high school seasons at Barron Collier High School in Naples, Florida. In his junior and senior years, he attended the International School of Broward in Hollywood, Florida. He then spent a post-graduate year at IMG Academy before attending college at Florida State. Isaac majored in sport management while at FSU. In 2018, Isaac started the Jonathan Isaac Fight for Literacy program, raising money and bringing awareness to the importance of reading. In 2019, Isaac was recognized for his efforts in improving the Central Florida community and was the co-winner of the Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment award. The 6-foot-10 center was named to the 2016-17 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman Team for the Seminoles, in addition to garnering a nod on the All-ACC Honorable Mention squad. He helped lead Florida State to the 2017 NCAA Tournament second round, collecting double-digit rebounds in each postseason appearance. Statistically, Isaac was fifth in blocks per game (1.5) in the ACC for the 16-17 season. He also led his team in rebounds per game (7.8) and was second on FSU in both scoring (12.0 PPG) and steals (1.2 SPG). Isaac opted to enter the 2017 NBA Draft after his freshman year and was selected in the first round (sixth overall) by the Orlando Magic.

Isaac continues to be uninvolved in the Magic's rotation to start the season, not seeing the floor for over seven minutes in the games he does play, as more minutes have seemingly been allocated to Tristan da Silva and Noah Penda. Isaac's next opportunity to contribute comes Thursday against the Hornets.

Isaac missed all of last season while recovering from a torn ACL and meniscus. The Magic have changed significantly since Isaac last played, with the organization diving into a rebuild. That will likely end up being a positive thing for Isaac, who figures to be more of a focal point of the offense than he would have been previously. Despite playing just 136 career games since being drafted sixth overall in 2017, Isaac has already established himself as one of the league's best defenders, averaging 2.1 blocks and 1.5 steals per 36 minutes for his career. The question now is about the other side of the ball. Isaac made strides in 2019-20, as he averaged 11.9 points on 47/34/79 shooting -- the most efficient season of his career. He also averaged 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 28.8 minutes. The result, combined with his 2.9 combined blocks-plus-steals, was Isaac ranking a shocking 34th in per-game fantasy production in his 34 appearances. In 2021-22, Isaac figures to see 30-plus minutes on a regular basis, and it won't be surprising if he sets a career high in shot attempts. The injury risk should concern fantasy managers, but Isaac could be a steal after the fourth or fifth round given his two-way upside.
In his third season, Isaac enjoyed a career year. He averaged 11.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 1.6 steals and 1.4 assists across 28.8 minutes - all career highs. His ability to contribute on both ends of the court made him a highly-valuable fantasy contributor in the early goings of the season, though a devastating knee injury sustained in January derailed the breakout campaign. After fearing he would miss the rest of the season, Isaac was able to return to the NBA bubble after additional time to recover due to the league's extended time off. Isaac returned but unfortunately suffered another injury when he tore his ACL and meniscus. He underwent surgery in early August and is expected to miss all of the 2020-21 season. After playing just 27 games as a rookie in 2017-18, Isaac appeared in just 34 contests in 2019-20 and will not play again until 2021-22 at the earliest. He's a unique two-way talent who can be a quality fantasy contributor, though health will obviously be his biggest roadblock moving forward.
Isaac improved his per-game averages across every statistical category except steals as a sophomore in 2018-19. Perhaps more importantly, he established himself as a fixture in the starting lineup, showcasing his superb defensive acumen while improving offensively as well through 75 games and 64 starts. Having reportedly gained a whopping 25 pounds of muscle this summer, the young combo forward turns 22 in October and could see a sizable uptick in playing time for the second straight season, as he logged 26.6 minutes per game last year compared to 19.9 per night as a rookie. In order for Isaac to be a consistently positive factor for fantasy purposes, he'll likely need to provide more steady offensive production, which has been the big question mark for him since entering the league, and it reared its ugly head in the playoffs. Regardless, it's clear that the Magic have high hopes for Isaac and view him as a key cog going forward. As a result, those who take the plunge and decide to invest in him on draft day can at least take comfort in the fact that Orlando is very likely to continue allowing Isaac to play through mental mistakes and off nights offensively.
The sixth overall pick in the 2017 Draft out of Florida State, where he made the ACC All-Freshman Team, Isaac had his rookie campaign dampened by a lingering ankle injury. He struggled offensively during his 27 appearances, averaging just 5.4 points across 19.9 minutes while shooting 37.9 percent from the field. However, Isaac shot an encouraging 76.0 percent from the free throw line and was able to show off his defensive potential by averaging a combined 4.2 steals/blocks per 36 minutes. Heading into 2018-19, Isaac should see his role increase, likely starting alongside Aaron Gordon at forward. At the very least, Isaac is probably worth a late-round flier in Fantasy simply due to his upside as a defender and solid rebounding. How early he gets drafted is heavily dependent on Fantasy owners’ optimism about his scoring ability, both in volume and percentage, and overall workload.
Isaac, at 6-foot-11, has impressive physical tools for a player capable of occupying both forward slots – a great asset to have next to Aaron Gordon, who’s a bit of a tweener himself. Isaac’s length and motor project to make him an impact defender at the NBA level, capable of succeeding in a switch-heavy defensive scheme. Last season, at Florida State, he posted 12.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals across 26.2 minutes per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from three on 89 attempts. Questions do remain about what kind of offensive impact he’ll make, however. Scouts noted that while he has the tools to be a great talent on that side of the ball, he lacks aggression and confidence. He has plenty of upside, but the concerns about his offensive game seemingly make it unlikely he’ll post eye-popping box scores. That said, his defensive potential and overall versatility should keep him on the floor for solid stretches of games, possibly garnering sixth-man type minutes at both forward spots.

Isaac has set the goal of playing in every regular-season game during the 2025-26 campaign, he told Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel. "My goal this season is 82," Isaac said at media day, noting that he dropped some weight in the offseason. "If nothing happens, if I don't get any colds or sicknesses or anything like that, I should be fine to go 82."

Isaac appeared in just 11 games across three seasons between the 2020-21 and 2022-23 campaigns, but that number has risen considerably of late. The Magic forward played in 58 regular-season contests in 2023-24 and 71 last season. It's worth noting that only 11 players featured in each of the 82 regular-season contests in the 2024-25 campaign, including Chris Paul, Jarrett Allen, Malik Beasley and Jalen Green.
