Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Manaea's followup season to a successful debut with the Mets was mostly awful. The one shining light was a 24.0% K-BB%, which is a career best for him, but it only came over the course of 60.2 innings and a nasty case of gopheritis with Manaea allowing 13 homers in that limited time. He dealt with an oblique injury earlier in the season and then pitched through loose bodies in his elbow once he returned from that with the help of a cortisone injection midsummer. It was still up in the air whether Manaea would require surgery to remove those loose bodies this winter, which is understandably upsetting for Mets fans and fantasy managers. It would only take one of those bodies moving to a nerve or a ligament and start rubbing the wrong way to put Manaea back in an all-too-familiar situation for him. He is an intriguing upside play in the endgame, but we would feel a lot better recommending him if we knew where those loose bodies were in his elbow. Read Past Outlooks
Earns first win in bulk relief
Manaea (1-1) earned the win Sunday against San Diego. He allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out three over four innings of bulk relief.
Analysis
Entering after an inning from opener Huascar Brazoban, Manaea was generally able to stay out of trouble, except for a two-run homer surrendered to Freddy Fermin in the fifth inning. The southpaw logged 66 pitches (39 strikes) in what was his second appearance since joining the New York rotation after operating exclusively as a reliever to open the season. Over his past seven outings, Manaea owns a 3.43 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB across 21 innings. The 34-year-old is tentatively slated to next take the ball Friday against Atlanta and could once again operate behind an opener.

Manaea was good for his first 20 starts last season, putting up a 3.74 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 101:45 K:BB over 106 innings. Then, after watching a Chris Sale start and deciding he'd try to emulate Sale's lower arm slot, Manaea really took off over his final 12 outings, collecting a 3.09 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 83:18 K:BB across 75.2 frames. The new arm slot allowed Manaea's sinker to play better at the top of the zone, and he also found the strike zone more consistently, cutting his walk rate from 10.1 percent to 6.2 percent. A pitcher elevating his ceiling rarely happens in their 30s, but when it does it's usually because of a tangible change like Manaea made. It will cost fantasy managers more in 2025 to find out whether he can carry over his late-season success. There's also no change of scenery to consider since he re-signed with the Mets on a three-year, $75 million deal.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Contract likely to top $75 million
Manaea's contract is expected to top the three-year, $75 million deal signed by Nathan Eovaldi, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
Analysis
Manaea's track record has much more inconsistency than Eovaldi's, but he's also two years younger and thrived down the stretch for the Mets in 2024 after lowering his arm slot. The left-hander rejected a qualifying offer from the Mets, so the club that signs him must forfeit a trade pick in addition to dishing out a hefty sum of money.
