Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Mountcastle had a fourth consecutive season of injury and disappointing production since his breakout 2021 campaign this past season. Mountcastle did enjoy hitting at home again with the corrective measures to Camden Yards, as all but one of his homers came at home. The problem was two fold: He hit just seven homers on the season and he spent the entirety of June, July and the first week of August on the injured list with a severe hamstring strain. A .305/348/.463 triple-slash the first month of his return gave us false hope, and Mountcastle finished September with a .190/.221/.302 line. Despite four seasons of injuries and disappointing production, Baltimore did tender Mountcastle a contract for 2026, but he's now poised for more of a reserve role after the Orioles signed Pete Alonso this winter. Simply put, the talent around Mountcastle has improved while his production continues to decline. AL-Only leagues can consider him endgame material for a potential rebound, but volume will likely be a concern if he remains with the Orioles. Read Past Outlooks
Placed on 60-day IL
The Orioles placed Mountcastle (foot) on the 60-day injured list Monday.
Analysis
Mountcastle was diagnosed with a fractured fourth metacarpal in his left foot following his exit from Saturday's game against the Giants. His placement on the 60-day IL means the earliest he can return to major-league action is mid-to-late June, though it wouldn't be surprising to see Mountcastle on the shelf until the All-Star break in mid-July. With Mountcastle being moved off the 40-man roster, the Orioles acquired Christian Encarnacion-Strand from the Reds and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk.

After breaking out with a 33-homer season in 2021, Mountcastle has seen that total continue to fall every year since then down to just 13 in 2024. Part of the dip has been related to injuries, as he's made four trips to the injured list since the start of the 2022 campaign and has averaged fewer than 500 plate appearances across the last two seasons. Another culprit has been the cavernous left field at Camden Yards. Mountcastle has seen his fly ball and pull rates drop each of the last three years and for the first time in his career hit more balls to right field than left field in 2024. If it was a conscious change related to the dimensions at OPACY, Mountcastle can feel free to now revert back to his old swing after the Orioles elected to move the fence back in a bit. The new left-field dimensions still won't be as favorable as they were pre-2022, but they'll certainly give Mountcastle a better shot to bounce back in the power department.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Potential fit with Guardians
Mountcastle is a possible trade fit for the Guardians, Quincy Wheeler of CoveringTheCorner.com reports.
Analysis
The Orioles somewhat surprisingly elected to tender Mountcastle a contract and they have since signed Pete Alonso, further clouding the playing-time picture for the 28-year-old Mountcastle. He can undoubtedly be had via trade, and Mountcastle would have a clearer path to playing time in Cleveland. He's coming off a disappointing 2025 campaign that saw him slash .250/.286/.367 with seven home runs over just 89 contests.
