Colas spent the first half shuttling between Triple-A Charlotte and the South Side. He managed nine hits in 33 MLB at bats, but they were all singles. Colas spent the second half with the Knights, where he finished with a .736 OPS. His strikeout rate is high, though Colas' quality of contact is at an acceptable level. However, he's left-handed and a slow afoot ground ball hitter, thus easy to defend. With a logjam in the White Sox outfield, Colas will get spring training reps at first base for the second straight season. Once Colas passes a physical, he's expected to report to the Angels' Double-A affiliate in Rocket City. After signing with the White Sox in January 2022 as an international free agent out of Cuba, Colas quickly emerged as one of the organization's top prospects. He never delivered on his potential, however, amassing a .223/.271/.309 slash line across 301 plate appearances over 88 games in Chicago between the 2023 and 2024 seasons before he was removed from the 40-man roster in late March. The 26-year-old outfielder had continued to languish in the minors before the White Sox released him Saturday, as he turned in a .500 OPS in 29 games between Triple-A Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham this season.

There was quite a bit of hype around Colas when he signed with the White Sox as an international free agent in January of 2022 and he further fanned the flames in his first year of MLB-affiliated ball, slashing .314/.371/.524 in 526 plate appearances between High-A Winston-Salem, Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. He then lit it up in the Cactus League last spring to earn a spot on Chicago's major-league roster leading into the 2023 season. It was a storybook rise, but what came after was alarming. Colas posted the eighth-worst OPS (.571) of the 328 big-league hitters who logged more than 250 plate appearances and was twice demoted back to the minors. He batted .190/.238/.293 against lefties and racked up 71 total strikeouts to just 12 walks. The hype has waned, so much so that the 25-year-old outfielder will likely go undrafted in most standard leagues for 2024.
