Reverting to 2020's short season level was optimistic, but there was hope Voit would rebound from a down 2021. Unfortunately, Voit continued his downward trend. He was slashing just .225/.317/.416 in 82 games when the Padres traded Voit to the Nationals in the Juan Soto/Josh Bell blockbuster. Voit fared no better in Washington, posting a .228/.295/.381 line over his final 55 games. He continued to hit fly balls at an elevated clip with above average exit velocity, but fewer cleared the fence as shown by a 16.7% HR/FB rate, well below his 22.9% career level. Compounding matters is Voit fanned at a career-worst 31.5% pace. As a 32-year-old righthanded hitting, below average fielding first basemen coming off a pair of down seasons, Voit may have to settle for a short-side platoon role. He's worth a flier in single-league formats, but Voit has lost his mixed-league appeal.

Voit is nearing a minor-league contract with the Mets, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
                  Analysis
Voit last played at Triple-A Syracuse in the Mets organization before exercising his opt-out clause in early August. He's likely headed back there to begin 2024, offering the Mets some potential depth at designated hitter should Mark Vientos struggle. Voit didn't fare well during his brief time in the majors last season with Milwaukee, managing just a .548 OPS in 22 contests.
