2026 Fantasy Outlook
Hicks was part of the rotation at turnstile, sorry, catcher with the Marlins in 2025. The Marlins catchers (and pitchers) allowed 191 successful stolen bases in 2025 nabbing just 24 potential thefts, and Hicks was as guilty as the rest catching 6 of 57 attempts. He is an interesting sort at the plate beause he is extremely disciplined with all his studying of the strike zone behind the plate as he has delivered a double-digit walk percentage every season of his professional career and has more walks (209) than strikeouts (203) in his professional career. He also has 19 home runs in nearly 1400 plate appearances with a .269 batting average. He qualifies at both catcher and first base, but lacks the power fantasy managers desire from either position and will obviously hurt you much less at catcher where his skills should still allow him to hit for an above-average batting average from the catching position. Hicks cannot hurt you as a second catcher in a deep league, but he also is not going to help you much. Read Past Outlooks
Swats fourth homer
Hicks went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's loss to Atlanta.
Analysis
The 26-year-old backstop had gone 12 straight games without leaving the yard after a power surge in the first week of the season, but Hicks got hold of an Osvaldo Bido slider in the eighth inning Wednesday and ripped it down the right-field line for his fourth homer of the year. Hicks has been playing nearly every day between catcher (10 games), first base (six games) and DH (three games), slashing .309/.355/.545 with a stunning 18 RBI, two behind MLB leader Andy Pages.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Hicks was acquired by Detroit from the Rangers at the trade deadline in the deal that sent Carson Kelly to Texas and he was then snagged by the Marlins in this offseason's Rule 5 draft. Hicks projects to be a backup catcher long term, and he'll need to be kept in the majors all season otherwise Miami would have to return him to Detroit. Hicks' production at Double-A improved after the trade, as he slashed .272/.414/.368 with two home runs, two steals, a 15.9 percent walk rate and a 9.7 percent strikeout rate in 33 games after slashing .260/.364/.353 with four home runs in 80 games with the Rangers' Double-A affiliate. Hicks hasn't logged a slugging percentage higher than his on-base percentage since he was in rookie ball in 2022, so it's pretty clear that power won't be a big part of the equation but he could be one of Miami's better on-base threats. Hicks will be competing with Nick Fortes and prospect Agustin Ramirez for playing time behind the dish, and he could also get starts at first base and designated hitter if he's holding his own as a hitter.
