2026 Fantasy Outlook
While it's impressive that Realmuto has remained a capable starting catcher through his age-34 season, he's clearly not the player he once was. His OPS slipped to .700 last year, his lowest mark since his rookie season, while he managed just 12 homers. He's now averaged 13 homers and five steals over the past two seasons, well below the 19.7 homers and 16.7 steals he averaged over the previous three. Previously a player who would regularly be at or near the top of the plate appearance leaderboard for catchers, allowing him to compile big run and RBI totals, he ranked a mere seventh in plate appearances (550) among catchers last season and finished eighth in runs (57) and 15th in RBI (52). Now a free agent, he should land somewhere where he'll still get most of the starts behind the plate, making him a very serviceable option in two-catcher leagues, but there's very little upside here at his age, so those in one-catcher leagues may want to look towards the younger generation. In mix for cleanup spot
Realmuto is an option to bat cleanup in 2026, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Manager Rob Thomson considers Alec Bohm the favorite for the role, and it sounds like Adolis Garcia is in contention as well. Realmuto enters his age-35 campaign in fairly evident decline, considering his OPS has dropped steadily in each of the past four seasons, but the possibility of hitting fourth in Philadelphia's lineup at least gives him some upside as a late-round catcher option in fantasy drafts.

Realmuto had a good five or six years with a claim to the "best catcher in baseball" title, but those days are probably over heading into his age-34 season. Realmuto used to be good for elite volume and elite productivity (both by catcher standards), but last year, he was good for neither. He started an average of 124 games behind the plate from 2021 to 2023, with only Martin Maldonado coming with 15 games of that mark, but in 2024, meniscus surgery in mid-June cost him nearly six weeks and limited him to 99 games caught. Those knee troubles also affected his ability on the basepaths, as he stole just two bases after averaging 17 steals over the prior three seasons. It wasn't all bad, as he remained a capable hitter. His .266/.322/.429 slash line was good for a 109 wRC+, and his 10.4 percent barrel rate marked his third straight season in double digits, even if it led to a modest 14 homers. Realmuto should remain useful in 2025, but he's no longer a five-category superstar.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Close to re-signing with Phillies
The Phillies are close to re-signing Realmuto, Ken Rosenthal and Matt Gelb of The Athletic report.
Analysis
Previous reports indicated that there was a gap in negotiations between the two sides, but the Phillies might have upped their offer after Bo Bichette slipped through their fingers and signed with the Mets. Realmuto slashed only .257/.315/.384 this past regular season and turns 35 in March, but he remains a much better option at catcher than what the Phillies otherwise had on their roster.
