                2025 Fantasy Outlook

The 8.3 percent walk rate Boyle tallied during a three-start audition with the Athletics in 2023, unsurprisingly, turned out to be a mirage. His walk rate in 2024 ballooned to 17.7 percent, which is actually better than his 18.8 percent mark from the minors. There's no disputing that Boyle's stuff pops. He averaged 97.7 mph with his four-seamer in 2024 and touched 100 mph with regularity. His slider can be devastating. Boyle is a two-pitch pitcher, though, and he's shown no ability at any level to find the strike zone enough for his plus stuff to matter. An offseason trade landed the righty in Tampa Bay, and if there's one team that might be able to squeeze the most out of Boyle, it's the Rays, who have essentially told their pitchers in recent years to just throw the ball down the middle and trust their stuff. Pitching coach Kyle Snyder also has a reputation for being able to get taller pitchers to refine their mechanics, him being 6-foot-8 himself (Boyle is 6-foot-7). It's a long shot that Boyle turns into anything, but he should at least be on fantasy radars. Yields four runs in loss
Boyle (1-4) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five across five innings.
                  Analysis
Boyle had given up just one earned run over his previous two starts, but he couldn't carry that momentum into Saturday's AL East clash. He generated 15 whiffs on 92 pitches but couldn't avoid the loss as the Rays were limited to just one run. Boyle appeared in 13 games (nine starts) for the Rays in 2025 and will end the season with a 4.67 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 58:28 K:BB across 52 innings.

        2024 Fantasy Outlook

The 6-foot-7 Boyle has always had loud stuff, but he didn't have good enough command to even project as a ninth-inning arm, let alone a starter. The Reds traded him to Oakland at the deadline for Sam Moll, and Boyle surprisingly went on to not only reach the majors, but have some success. He was good one time through the lineup against the Padres and then logged wins against the Tigers and Angels in late-September. Boyle's fastball averaged 98 mph and he can touch 100 mph. His upper-80s slider gives him a second plus pitch, and he threw his third-pitch curveball 10 percent of the time. His command woes (17.8 BB% in the minors last year) could resurface in spring training and prohibit him from even making the rotation, but Boyle has much better pure stuff than most Athletics pitchers. His home park makes him a viable home streamer, but it will be difficult for him to log wins given his projected pitch inefficiency and lack of run support.
