2026 Fantasy Outlook
It is unfortunate, but the memory of Kiner-Falefa's questionable base running in the ninth inning of Games Seven in the World Series is going to linger for some time. From him not getting a better secondary lead to him sliding into home on a force play is a play Toronto fans have likely replayed in their heads multiple times this winter. The utility infielder was in his first year of a two-year deal with Toronto, but it may be best for both parties to find the infielder a fresh start in a new home far away from the Rogers Centre. That said, this is also a player who has never hit as many as nine homers in a season and last stole 20-plus bases in 2022. He is empty average with some speed to contribute in mono leagues along with multiposition eligibility, but otherwise he offers little to fantasy managers. He could be a handy reserve option with the positional flexibility. Read Past Outlooks
Gettings reps at first
Kiner-Falefa is getting work at first base early in spring training due to the absences of Triston Casas (knee) and Romy Gonzalez (shoulder), Sean McAdam of Masslive.com reports.
Analysis
Casas continues to recover from major knee surgery last May, and Gonzalez has been shelved since September due to a left shoulder injury. Kiner-Falefa has typically served at second base, third and shortstop during his major-league career, but the veteran utility man could get some looks at first during spring training and early in the regular season behind Willson Contreras.

Kiner-Falefa split his 2024 season between Toronto and Pittsburgh, but he's had remarkably stable production across all four of his teams. His primary asset at the plate is his ability to make consistent contact (career 15.6 percent strikeout rate) while maintaining a passable batting average. However, his 1.8 percent barrel rate and .089 career ISO highlight the lack of pop in his bat, and he's stolen just 25 bases combined across the last two seasons. That leaves the majority of his fantasy value tied up in team context. His current home in Pittsburgh likely offers him steady playing time at shortstop, but neither the home park nor lineup around him will help in terms of run-scoring or run-producing opportunities. Heading into 2025, Kiner-Falefa is best described as a player who is likely to have secure playing time but with little fantasy intrigue outside of the deepest formats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Increasing versatility in camp
Kiner-Falefa is seeing reps at first base and could be a backup at the position in the early stages of the 2026 season, according to Sean McAdam of MassLive.
Analysis
The Red Sox will have William Contreras as their everyday first baseman, and while Triston Casas and Romy Gonzalez are going to be his backups, both are dealing with knee and shoulder injuries, respectively. This had led to Kiner-Falefa seeing some reps at first, and it's not uncommon for him to move around the diamond. He's played second, third base and shortstop in his big-league career.
