Connor Norby

Connor Norby

25-Year-Old Third Baseman3B
Miami Marlins
2026 Fantasy Outlook
A left oblique strain put Norby on the injured list to begin the 2025 season. He made a second trip to the IL in July due to left wrist inflammation, and a third in September due to a strained left quad. Around the missed time, Norby slashed an underwhelming .251/.300/.389 with eight homers and eight steals across 337 plate appearances with the Marlins. For the most part, his numbers were well down from what he did late in 2024 after coming over from Baltimore in a deadline trade. A career 29.0 K% shows the biggest area for concern. Miami will likely still want to see what Norby can do at third base assuming better luck on the health front, but the durability and performance question marks push Norby into flier territory for 2026. Blasts homer Monday

April 13, 2026
Norby went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Monday's 10-4 win over Atlanta.
Analysis
Norby turned on a 93.9 mph sinker from Rolddy Munoz and sent it over the left-field wall in the sixth inning for his second homer of the season. The 25-year-old has been locked in at the plate of late, riding a six-game hitting streak and raising his OPS to .847 through 15 games. With Christopher Morel (oblique) sidelined, Norby has taken advantage of regular opportunities at first base.

Stat Review
How does Connor Norby compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
  • BB/K

2023
Norby was part of a long list of good prospects with the Orioles who were blocked at the major-league level, but he was finally freed at the trade deadline in a deal that sent him to the Marlins. The 24-year-old showed off both the good and bad parts of his profile during his 36-game audition in Miami, as he put up a 1.043 OPS with six home runs in his first 18 contests before cratering to a .481 OPS with one home run and a 34.5 percent strikeout rate in his final 18 tilts. Norby smacked 26 home runs and stole 16 bases combined between the majors and minors in 2024 but also struck out at a 29.5 clip, including a rate of 33 percent in the big leagues. With a 14.8 percent barrel rate and well above average fly ball and pull rates, Norby should provide power even in Miami if he can make enough contact.
The two things working against Norby for 2024 are his middling defense at second base and in left field and Baltimore's impressive depth. If he were on a team like the White Sox, he could be ticketed for everyday work at second base to start the season and he might even climb to the first or second spot in the lineup. He is a professional hitter and enters his age-23/24 season with a career .295/.362/.498 slash line, 25 home runs, 10 steals and a 21 percent strikeout rate in 147 games at Triple-A. Norby bats right-handed and Oriole Park at Camden Yards had the second-worst overall 2023 Statcast park factor for right-handed batters and was third-worst for righty homers, so the depth chart isn't the only reason he could benefit from a trade. Norby has average speed and could chip in a handful of steals if he is playing every day.
Norby, the 41st overall pick in 2021, is pretty good at everything that matters in fantasy and is nearing his big-league debut. His best tool is his hit tool and his worst tool is his fielding at second base, but he's good enough to play there everyday if his bat is as good as expected. Norby got better luck on balls in play (.322 BABIP vs. .277 BABIP) after a promotion from High-A to Double-A and he was generally just a better hitter across the board (better approach, more power) as the season progressed. He hit .303/.382/.588 with 21 home runs, 10 steals a 19.9 K% and a 10.4 BB% in 71 games from July 1 on at Double-A and Triple-A. Norby was once a plus runner, but he's now more of a 50- or 55-grade runner who could steal double-digit bases over a full season. There are some other candidates for middle-infield work in the short term (Ramon Urias, Jordan Westburg, Joey Ortiz), and if the Orioles stick with Jorge Mateo, that would only leave second base open. However, Norby is arguably the best pure hitter long term of Baltimore's non-Gunnar Henderson infielders.

Could see time at first base
3BMiami Marlins
November 29, 2025
Norby could see time at first base with the Marlins in the 2026 season, according to Kevin Barral and Isaac Azout of Fish on First.
Analysis
The Marlins have struggled to find steady production at the corners, and they're expected to explore every possible avenue to address that issue next season. Miami had seven different players get reps at first base in 2025, but Norby will have the chance to earn the job at first before the start of the 2026 campaign. Norby has mostly played third base in the big leagues, and he also spent time in left field and right field while in Baltimore's minor-league system. He hasn't played at first base in the majors, but it seems the Marlins are ready to see how that experiment goes before considering signing external help to solve those woes.
