                  Placed on injured list
The Angels placed Chafin on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Thursday, with left triceps inflammation.
                  Analysis
Chafin has been effective out of the bullpen since joining the Angels at the trade deadline, posting a 1.98 ERA and 1.17 WHIP alongside an 18:7 K:BB over 13.2 innings. However, he'll now be unavailable for the next two weeks after coming away from his latest appearance with a triceps issue, leaving just enough time for him to potentially come back for the final weekend of the regular season. Connor Brogdon was selected from Triple-A Salt Lake to fill the opening in the Halos' bullpen.

Chafin has pitched for six different teams over the last four seasons, as there's always a market for steady left-handed relievers. After inking a 1-year deal with Arizona last February, the 33-year-old was one of the D'Backs most trusted relievers early on. He even got some run as the team's closer, tallying eight saves over the first two months. Chafin continued to find success with his slider (.111 BA), which had the 6th-highest whiff percentage (55.8%) in the league for that pitch type. Unfortunately, the southpaw couldn't sustain his early-season success and was traded to Milwaukee at the deadline. He closed out 2023 with a 5.82 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 14:10 K:BB over his final 17 innings and had his $7.25 million club option for 2024 declined. Chafin should still find work this season based on his experience and handedness, but he may be entering the downswing of his career.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

                  Candidate to leave Washington
Chafin is one of the players the Nationals might be open to trading this summer if they get a solid package in return, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic.
                  Analysis
Chafin wasn't included on the Opening Day roster by the Tigers and used the opt-out on that contract to join Washington, where he's posted a solid 3.18 ERA across 16 appearances and 11.1 innings. However, Chafin also owns a 2.03 WHIP and a 14:11 K:BB, so his numbers might regress sooner than later. The Nationals would hope that's not the case in the coming weeks, because his trade value should only go up if he continues to pitch like this for the non-contending Nationals.
