2026 Fantasy Outlook
Bregman's nine-year run in Houston came to an end last winter when he signed with Boston, but he opted out of that contract in November before ultimately inking a five-year deal with the Cubs. Coming off a career-worst .768 OPS in 2024, the third baseman rebounded to a .273/.360/.462 slash line last season, though he finished with 18 homers -- his lowest total since 2021 -- and was limited to 114 games due to a quadriceps strain. Bregman's elite plate discipline was on display with a 10.5 percent walk rate and 14.1 percent strikeout rate, and his power remained consistent with a .189 ISO, which is exactly his average ISO over the past four years. Durability is a concern with Bregman entering his age-32 campaign, but it's worth noting that he had three straight years of at least 145 games played prior to 2025. His 125 wRC+ ranked tied-fourth among third baseman with at least 400 plate appearances in 2025, and Bregman should be in that range again in 2026 and will have plenty of upside if he can stay fairly healthy. Drives in three Tuesday
Bregman went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Phillies.
Analysis
All three of Bregman's hits were singles, but fantasy managers won't complain about the third baseman's fourth multi-hit effort of the year through 17 games. Overall, Bregman is batting .243 with only a .659 OPS. He posted an .822 OPS last season in Boston, and his bat will likely continue to heat up as the year progresses. Bregman has also played in all of Chicago's games so far, making his playing time look very secure.

Bregman is coming off the worst season of his career, but there is reason for optimism, especially after he signed with the Red Sox in February. Last year, his quality of contact was among the best in his career with a personal-best hard-hit rate and fourth highest average exit velocity. His .264 BABIP was unfortunate, and a 6.9 percent walk rate was about half its usual level. Regression alone should drive a rebound, and batting in Fenway Park is ideal for his flyball tendencies. It would help if Bregman could revert to his extreme pull approach, as he's sent fewer balls to left field each of the prior three seasons. Bregman's defense at the hot corner is above average, though manager Alex Cora claims Bregman could be a Gold Glove second baseman. Adding the keystone to his eligibility would be a bonus. Be it at second or third, expect Bregman to be in the lineup nearly every day, hitting in the meat of a potent offense.

Boston offer revealed
The Red Sox offered Bregman a five-year, $165 million deal before he ultimately signed with the Cubs on Saturday, Jan. 10, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com.
Analysis
The Red Sox offered slightly less than the Cubs, with Chicago's offer being five years and $175 million, while including significant deferrals, just like the Red Sox's. The Red Sox will have to look at other alternatives to bolster their lineup before the start of the 2026 season.
