2026 Fantasy Outlook
Kay owns a career 5.59 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 85.1 MLB innings in a swingman role, yet the White Sox signed him to a two-year, $12 million deal in December and appear set to give him a spot near the front of their rotation. That comes after the lefty's two-year stint in Japan, although it was really only 2025 where Kay had much success, with his ERA dropping from 3.42 to 1.74 and his WHIP falling from 1.34 to 0.98. His 21.5 K% last season was actually lower than his career MLB mark of 22.4%, but his 6.8 BB% was miles better than his 12.0 BB% from his time in the majors. He also had a groundball rate north of 50% after sitting around league average in that category when we last saw him stateside. He's going to need the control improvements and groundball ability to carry over if he's going to have success in the big leagues this time around given his relative lack of whiffs. It's an innings-eater profile for a team that won't win many games, giving Kay low upside in most fantasy leagues. Read Past Outlooks
