Musgrove missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in October of 2024. He was said to be holding out hope for a late return to the Padres, and while that never materialized, Musgrove was throwing up-down sessions by September. Workload expectations are difficult to pin down entering 2026. The right-hander had fallen short of even 100 innings in 2023 and 2024 before the completely lost season. Performance will be similarly difficult to project, as Musgrove has shown a high level but did not quite pitch to his usual standards the last time we saw him in 2024. Twice has Musgrove reached 180 innings in a big-league season, and he will be more than 17 months removed from surgery by the start of the upcoming campaign. So long as he's healthy, Musgrove should be part of San Diego's starting rotation. Read Past Outlooks
