2026 Fantasy Outlook
Nichushkin continues to be a reliable middle-six winger -- nothing more, nothing less. He earned 17 goals, 32 assists, 160 shots on net, 55 hits, 26 PIM and a plus-9 rating over 72 regular-season contests, the most games he has played since 2015-16. Fantast managers should know what to expect from him at this stage of his career. He'll offer some secondary scoring, decent physicality and a positive plus-minus rating, though his move to Columbus could increase his power-play opportunities. Nichushkin has produced at a better per-game pace in recent years, and he should be good for 20 goals and 50-55 points, but it's almost certain he'll miss 10-15 games throughout the year. That injury potential makes him less attractive to risk-averse fantasy managers. Read Past Outlooks
Traded for picks
Nichushkin (lower body) was traded to Columbus from Colorado on Thursday in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick.
ANALYSIS
It's a significant package of picks for Nichushkin, though the Jackets were able to push off some of the costs by having the picks spread out over the next three drafts. For his part, the 31-year-old winger notched 49 points in 72 regular-season games last year, reaching the 45-point threshold for the fourth time in the last five years. Where Nichushkin fits into the lineup at even strength likely won't be clear until training camp, but he should be in line for power-play minutes.

Nichushkin needed a drama-free season in 2025-26, and that's what he got when healthy. His suspension from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program delayed his debut to November, but he jumped right into the lineup and performed well until a lower-body injury cost him nearly two months in January and February. The winger racked up 21 goals and 34 points in just 43 regular-season contests, which would have been enough for a career high in points had he not missed half the year. However, fantasy managers should know by now that Nichushkin is a virtual lock to miss noticeable time every year -- he's been out of action for at least 20 games in four straight seasons. He's a clear high-risk, high-reward player, especially when he gets top-line usage, though the Avalanche have been known to shuffle wingers in the top six regularly.

On trade block?
Nichushkin might be traded before Friday's deadline, per Avalanche freelance writer Adrian Dater on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Nichushkin has 12 goals and 36 points in 51 appearances in 2025-26. His contract goes through 2029-30, and the Avalanche have an eye toward competing for the Stanley Cup this year, so they will presumably be happy to keep the 31-year-old if nothing finalizes. However, Colorado might still be willing to deal him away as part of a bigger trade that brings in a high-end player.
