2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Blackhawks had high aspirations when they inked Jones to an eight-year, $76 million contract in the summer of 2021, but those plans unraveled, so he was shipped to Florida in March. Jones ultimately got nine goals and 36 points across 63 regular-season outings between the Blackhawks and Panthers in 2024-25, followed by four goals and nine points in 23 playoff appearances en route to a championship. Jones is a clear top-four defenseman, even with an elite team like Florida, so the move didn’t dramatically change his fantasy appeal. He’s still a good bet for 30-40 points for 2025-26, and he might exceed that range if he stays healthy -- a risky thing to count on after he's recorded under 75 regular-season games in three straight years. Jones is also likely to have a nice plus-minus rating in Florida, and he should finish with over 80 hits and 100 blocks. Read Past Outlooks
Making return Tuesday
Jones (upper body) was activated from long-term injured reserve and will play in Tuesday's road game against the Canucks, per Panthers play-by-play announcer Steve Goldstein.
ANALYSIS
Jones is set to make his long-awaited return to the lineup after sustaining his upper-body injury during the Winter Classic on Jan. 2. Before going down, the 31-year-old blueliner had 24 points, 78 shots on net, 38 hits and 47 blocked shots across 40 games this season. When healthy, Jones offers shut-down skills defensively and currently holds his best plus-minus (-2) since the 2019-20 season. He'll likely return to one of Florida's top two defensive pairings and work his way back into a sizable role for the remainder of the regular season. If not already rostered, Jones is a strong waiver-wire pickup in nearly all fantasy formats.

Jones had yet another underwhelming season from an offensive standpoint in 2023-24, finishing the season with eight goals, 23 assists, nine power-play points, 77 hits and 131 blocked shots while averaging a whopping 25:29 of ice time through 67 regular-season games. A shoulder injury cost the 29-year-old defender 15 contests. The 20-year-old Kevin Korchinski will likely continue to encroach on Jones' power-play time as he develops, and it wouldn't be surprising to see Korchinski completely take over Jones' role on the No. 1 power-play unit at some point in 2024-25. That would almost certainly negatively impact Jones' already underwhelming offensive numbers, making him nothing more than a depth option from a fantasy perspective.
