2026 Fantasy Outlook
Hughes accumulated seven goals and 69 assists in 74 regular-season games between Vancouver and Minnesota in 2025-26. After being acquired by the Wild, Hughes had 53 points in 48 regular-season outings before adding 15 points in 11 playoff contests. His offensive output makes him a top-tier choice for potential fantasy managers, even though his category coverage is lacking. Hughes has 80-plus-point upside for the 2026-27 campaign. Before missing 10 of 13 games from early February to mid-March due to injuries, Hughes was the leader among defenders with 59 points through 47 appearances. Since the 2021-22 campaign, he ranks second among all rearguards with 312 points and first with 264 assists across 304 regular-season appearances. Hughes is also second among defensemen in power-play points (132) during that stretch. From a purely offensive standpoint, only Cale Makar ranks ahead of Hughes. The 25-year-old Hughes should be one of the first blueliners off the board in fantasy drafts, but potential managers should be aware that he won’t help much in categories outside of points and shots.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Will get long-term offer
Hughes should expect to receive a long-term contract offer from the Wild after owner Craig Leipold told reporters, "We would like to go as long as we could. He will probably want it to be a little shorter -- shorter being maybe three years. We hopefully will end up at five," Brian Compton of NHL.com reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Hughes is heading into the final season of a six-year, $47.10 million deal he signed with Vancouver back in October of 2021. As such, the offensively gifted blueliner will be eligible to sign an extension with the club July 1, something that seems to be a priority for the team's leadership after acquiring him via trade last year. With his power-play role in Minnesota, he registered 22 of his 53 regular-season points with the man advantage, Hughes could be in line to top the 100-point threshold this upcoming year, which would mark a career high.
