Mason McTavish

Mason McTavish

23-Year-Old CenterC
St. Louis Blues
2026 Fantasy Outlook
McTavish played 75 regular-season games last year and finished with 17 goals and 24 assists, slipping from his 22-goal, 52-point 2024-25 line. 11 power-play points and 95 hits keep the multi-category profile intact, but McTavish's role in the lineup going forward is a question mark. The Ducks decided to make that question someone else's to ask, shipping McTavish to the Blues for two first-rounders in 2026. Project a rebound toward 20-25 goals and 50-55 points for 2026-27 if all goes well with his new team. McTavish is a mid-round target whose hit totals and potential role in the top six could translate to a meaningful multi-category floor. Read Past Outlooks

Heads to Blues via trade
CSt. Louis Blues
June 26, 2026
McTavish was traded to the Blues from Anaheim on Friday in exchange for the No. 15 and No. 29 overall picks in the 2026 NHL Draft, per Pierre LeBrun of TSN.
ANALYSIS
McTavish had been rumored to be on the move for a few days, and we now know his destination. The No. 3 overall pick from 2021 never truly found his footing over the course of parts of five years with the Ducks, although he has posted 40-plus points in each of the past four seasons, so there may still be some meat on the bone. McTavish is a candidate for an enhanced role with his new club, though the offensive environment in St. Louis is not quite as strong as Anaheim these days. It projects as a lateral move for the 23-year-old from a fantasy perspective.

Taken with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, McTavish has proven to be a valuable top-six forward, but a breakout into stardom has eluded him. Although the 22-year-old set career highs with 22 goals and 52 points across 76 outings with Anaheim in 2024-25, if you compare his offensive production to 2023-24 (19 goals and 42 points in 64 appearances), then he showed no growth in terms of goals or points per 60 minutes. However, he did fire the puck more (180 shots compared to 130 in 2023-24), and his expected goals jumped to 25.4 from 16.7 a season prior, so an argument could be made that some bad puck luck masked what would have been an encouraging step forward. Combine that with the expectation that the young forward will continue to develop, and McTavish might make significant strides in 2025-26.
Despite being limited to 64 games due to injuries, McTavish showcased plenty of progress during his sophomore season. He operated at nearly a 55-point pace, generating 19 goals and 23 helpers in 2023-24. He had 10 goals and 21 points in 20 games to start the year, including six power-play points, a shorthanded goal and three game-winners. McTavish experienced some difficulties offensively as the season progressed, and injuries may have played a role in those struggles. He missed the final six contests because of a sprained MCL but didn't need to undergo offseason knee surgery. As a result, the 21-year-old forward should be a full participant in training camp. McTavish will likely see ice time in all situations and has breakout potential in 2024-25 if he plays in the Ducks' top six.
McTavish provided 17 goals, 43 points, 44 PIM, 161 shots, 55 hits and 37 blocked shots in 80 contests with Anaheim last season, making it a fairly successful rookie campaign. Still, the 20-year-old has a lot of room to grow. Taken with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, McTavish has the potential to be sound defensively and a force with the puck. He struggled in the second half of the 2022-23 campaign, recording just eight goals and 17 points over his final 40 outings, but some growing pains are to be expected. It wouldn't be surprising to see him take a step forward in 2023-24 while serving as Anaheim's second-line center behind Trevor Zegras.
McTavish played with five different teams over the course of last season, including the Ducks, their AHL affiliate in San Diego, two OHL clubs, and the Canadian Olympic roster. Anaheim surprised many by tabbing McTavish at No. 3 overall in the 2021 draft, but the early returns are highly encouraging. He has the look of an impact offensive player with a hard, heavy shot. McTavish was the best player at the pandemic-delayed 2022 World Juniors which was completed this past summer, leading the tournament in scoring while being named MVP. McTavish is still more of a dynasty/keeper asset than redraft option, but the Ducks are going to have a difficult time not carrying him on their roster this coming season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Rangers nearing deal?
CAnaheim Ducks
June 25, 2026
McTavish has come up in trade talks between the Rangers and the Ducks, freelance insider Frank Seravalli reports Thursday. Pierre LeBrun of TSN adds that the Ducks are weighing two offers for McTavish, with the Rangers being one of them.
ANALYSIS
McTavish is among the most likely players to be traded this offseason. The Rangers would be a bit of a challenging landing spot since they already have J.T. Miller and Mika Zibanejad down the middle, as well as Vincent Trocheck if they elect to hold onto him. All three of those players have some trade protection, so it's unclear if they'd be in the deal. McTavish is still just 23 years old -- a change of scenery could do him good since the Ducks look ready to move on.
