Lands five-year contract
Murphy signed a five-year, $20.5 million contract with Edmonton on Monday, per PuckPedia.
ANALYSIS
Murphy collected five goals, 17 points, 70 shots on net, 138 blocked shots, 90 hits and 71 PIM across 80 regular-season games between Edmonton and Chicago in 2025-26. He also picked up two goals, one assist, 12 hits and 15 blocks in six outings during the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Oilers. Murphy will probably occupy a bottom-four role while seeing plenty of time on the penalty kill in the 2026-27 campaign.

Murphy finished 2024-25 with two goals, 19 points, 52 PIM, 84 shots, 117 hits and 160 blocks across 68 regular-season appearances with Chicago. That’s on the high end for him in terms of offense, but beyond that, it was a typical result for the 32-year-old. He can reliably exceed 100 hits and 100 blocks while generating a moderate amount of PIM. He should be able to continue to do that for at least a couple more seasons despite missing more than his fair share of outings due to injuries.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Making progress in contract talks
Murphy and the Oilers have reportedly made progress in contract negotiations, according to Ryan Rishaug of TSN on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Murphy is a pending unrestricted free agent, but Rishaug noted that a deal could get done "in the next day or so." The 33-year-old Murphy was dealt to Edmonton from Chicago in early March in exchange for a 2028 second-round pick. The stay-at-home blueliner accounted for five goals, 17 points and 138 blocks over 80 regular-season games between the two teams in 2025-26, so he likely won't draw much interest from fantasy managers for the 2026-27 campaign.
