Matsuzawa earned All-American honors after making 27 of 29 field-goal attempts at Hawaii in 2025. The Japanese kicker was less successful in his first season kicking for Hawaii, when he converted only 12 of 16 field-goal attempts. Gay has a substantial edge in experience over the rookie Matsuzawa, but the 32-year-old veteran has struggled in recent seasons, missing at least six field-goal attempts in each of the past three campaigns.
