                2025 Fantasy Outlook

With Jacoby Brissett now with the Cardinals and Joe Milton dealt to the Cowboys, the Patriots will turn to Dobbs to serve as the top backup to second-year pro Drake Maye. The 30-year-old spent last season with the 49ers and has 15 career NFL starts under his belt, including eight with the Cardinals and four with the Vikings during the 2023 season. With New England, the 2017 fourth-rounder will provide an experienced option to turn to should Maye miss time, but in such a scenario Dobbs' fantasy upside could be limited while working behind a retooled offensive line and with the team's receiving corps still a work in progress. ANALYSIS
Dobbs served as a reserve quarterback for the 49ers in 2024 but got the Week 18 start with Brock Purdy (elbow) sidelined and Brandon Allen already earning a start himself Week 12. Between a pair of appearances, Dobbs completed 32 of 47 passes for 361 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, rushed nine times for 24 yards and two TDs and fumbled twice (one lost). In stints with five different teams, he's made 15 starts with a 3-12 record, so he brings an experienced hand behind rising second-year QB Drake Maye in New England.

Dobbs certainly had his moments last season. Traded to Arizona late in camp, Dobbs started the first eight games for the Cardinals before being traded to Minnesota to replace an injured Kirk Cousins. He came off the bench days after the trade to lead the Vikings to victory and then won the next week as the starter, but that was the peak. By Week 14 he was benched, eventually demoted to No. 3. Dobbs signed with the 49ers in March to back up Brock Purdy, and if pressed into action likely will produce serviceable QB2 numbers similar to last year. Dobbs is plenty athletic (421 rushing yards, six TDs in 13 games) and perhaps coach Mike Shanahan’s scheme can help improve Dobbs’ accuracy after he ranked 30th in the league in on-target percentage (67.9). If nothing else, Dobbs can dump it off and let the 49ers’ many playmakers run for yards after the catch.
