2026 Projections
Being let go by New England
The Patriots intend to cut Dobbs, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In 2025, his lone campaign with the Patriots, Dobbs served as the team's No. 2 quarterback behind Drake Maye, who started all 17 of New England's regular-season contests. Dobbs thus was limited to 10 passing attempts and 10 carries during his four appearances in that span. In light of the looming move, Tommy DeVito now slots in as Maye's top backup, while Dobbs will look to catch on elsewhere as a veteran signal-caller option with NFL starting experience (including 12 in 2023).

With Jacoby Brissett now with the Cardinals and Joe Milton dealt to the Cowboys, the Patriots will turn to Dobbs to serve as the top backup to second-year pro Drake Maye. The 30-year-old spent last season with the 49ers and has 15 career NFL starts under his belt, including eight with the Cardinals and four with the Vikings during the 2023 season. With New England, the 2017 fourth-rounder will provide an experienced option to turn to should Maye miss time, but in such a scenario Dobbs' fantasy upside could be limited while working behind a retooled offensive line and with the team's receiving corps still a work in progress.

ANALYSIS
Dobbs will make his first start for San Francisco in the season finale. He entered in relief in Week 17 after Brock Purdy injured his elbow. With Purdy set to sit out the season finale for a 49ers team that has been eliminated from playoff contention, Dobbs will get the starting nod this time after Brandon Allen started the previous game Purdy missed this season.
