2023 Fantasy Outlook
De Los Santos made his big league debut in late May and posted a 4.91 ERA in 25.2 innings of relief during his rookie campaign. Half of the runs he allowed were in his last four outings and it's possible a right lat strain was to blame for his poor performance over those final appearances. The injury required a 60-day IL stint, ending his season in mid-August. De Los Santos still managed to record three saves and two holds across his 26 appearances, as he quickly ascended Pittsburgh's leverage ladder. The right-hander's 95 mph sinker (59% usage) was largely responsible for a 53% groundball rate, though his 23.2% K-rate and 9.8% walk percentage could be improved. De Los Santos also throws a slider (40%), but has had trouble locating it. The addition of a third pitch could make him less predictable. De Los Santos likely has the most upside in the Pirates bullpen outside of David Bednar, but don't count on a breakout.
