        2021 Fantasy Outlook

Mercedes didn't see much action in 2020, failing to reach base in his lone plate appearances for the White Sox. The backstop did put together an impressive season in 2019 at Triple-A, slashing .310/.386/.647 with 17 home runs and 62 RBI in just 53 contests. While his 19.1 K% is undoubtedly a cause for concern, it's a common occurrence for power hitters to strike out at a higher rate, and there shouldn't be many questions about Mercedes power stroke after the 2019 campaign. The 27-year-old will have a chance to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster heading into 2021, and he'll likely need to beat out Zack Collins for the backup catching job if he's to start the season in the big leagues. It seems more likely that Mercedes could be a mid-to-late-season call-up, barring any significant injuries to either Collins or Yasmani Grandal.
