2026 Fantasy Outlook
Cano turned in the worst season of his career in 2025, posting a 5.12 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with only 53 strikeouts across 58 innings. Nevertheless, he still got plenty of high-leverage usage and racked up 17 holds, but he'll likely need to get back on track to maintain that role in 2026. Read Past Outlooks
Charged with loss Tuesday
Cano (0-1) took the loss Tuesday versus the Rangers, allowing one run on two hits and no walks in the sixth inning.
Analysis
Cano had given the Orioles a pair of scoreless outing during the club's opening series against the Twins, but he gave up his first run of the season Tuesday. The right-hander pitched fairly well during the spring to make Baltimore's Opening Day bullpen, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 6:0 K:BB over seven Grapefruit League innings, but Cano could fall into a lesser role once Andrew Kittredge (shoulder) and Keegan Akin (groin) are ready to return.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Cano was once again among the league leaders in the holds category, racking up 34 (T-3rd) for the Orioles. The 31-year-old righty managed to improve his strikeout rate by 3.1 percentage points, bringing it to a solid 26.1 percent overall, but issued more free passes with a 9.6 percent walk rate (27th percentile). The latter marked a five percent increase over 2023, during which it was a 96th percentile metric. Cano's 96 mph sinker still produced one of the highest groundball rates among relievers at 62.9 percent, making his profile one that is certainly capable of closing. If Baltimore eases Felix Bautista back into the closer role, Cano could benefit with additional save opportunities. Double-digit saves are possible in 2025, but don't count on more than 10-to-15 unless Bautista has any setbacks in his recovery.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Candidate for summer move
Cano is one of several relief pitchers the Orioles might make available for trade before the deadline, Jim Bowden of The Athletic speculates.
Analysis
The Orioles have had a disappointing season in 2025, and it wouldn't be surprising to see some of their relief arms being involved in trade talks over the upcoming weeks. Cano's 4.50 ERA and 1.30 WHIP aren't impressive and would be his worst numbers of the past three seasons, but he might generate some trade interest as a power arm out of the bullpen.
