2026 Fantasy Outlook
Isaac played his final game of the 2025 season in late June due to a mysterious injury. This offseason, Isaac revealed that he had brain surgery in July and is expected to be 100 percent recovered for spring training. Isaac slashed .201/.366/.446 with nine home runs, a 19.4 percent walk rate and a 29.7 percent strikeout rate in 41 games at Double-A prior to being shut down. His .245 ISO was right up there with some of his top marks in the lower levels, but a career-low .244 BABIP and traditionally high strikeout rate contributed to his poor batting average. We can't know what to expect from Isaac as he recovers from this live-saving procedure, but if it were just a normal injury, he'd seem like a decent buy-low target in dynasty leagues. Even in his down run at Double-A, the 21-year-old first baseman was 44 percent better than league average. The lefty-hitting Isaac moves well for a towering 6-foot-4 slugger - he stole 15 bases in 2024 - but he also seems likely to get platooned early in his career (.369 OPS vs LHP in 2025, .662 OPS vs LHP in 2024). Isaac is highly unlikely to reach the majors until at least 2027. Read Past Outlooks
Healthy again after brain surgery
Isaac made his Grapefruit League debut in Saturday's 12-3 loss to the Tigers, playing five innings at first base while going 1-for-2 with a base hit.
Analysis
Isaac made his highly anticipated return to the field Saturday after he hadn't played in a game since June 25, when he was lifted from a contest at Double-A Montgomery after experiencing dehydration. Days later, Isaac was sent in for a brain scan that revealed a tumor, prompting him to undergo emergency surgery a week later. Per Adam Berry of MLB.com, manager Kevin Cash noted that the Rays have no expectations in terms of results for Isaac this spring, as the first-base prospect's main focus is getting comfortable following his extended absence. Isaac will be in the lineup Sunday versus Atlanta, starting at first base and batting sixth.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2023
Isaac looks the part of a franchise first baseman in the making, and his track record of performance is very strong, but a late-season spike in strikeouts has increased his perceived volatility in dynasty leagues. Isaac slashed .310/.395/.579 with 12 home runs, 13 steals and a 27.6 percent strikeout rate in his first 54 games for High-A Bowling Green before missing two weeks with an undisclosed injury. After returning in late June, Isaac slashed .213/.339/.372 with seven home runs, three steals and a 41 percent strikeout rate over the final 53 games of his season, which included 31 games at Double-A after an early-August promotion. He made up for the lost time with a .957 OPS, three homers and a 40.3 percent strikeout rate in 15 Arizona Fall League games. He's a big guy (6-foot-3, 240 pounds), but Isaac happens to be 27-for-30 on stolen-base attempts in 209 games, so he could flirt with double-digit steals early in his big-league career. If Isaac's 2024 strikeout issues quickly start to look like an outlier, he'll surge back up prospect rankings, but if he looks like the same whiff-happy hitter early in 2025, he'll fall outside the top 50. We advise buying low, as Isaac still has a very high ceiling with youth and strong makeup on his side. He turns 21 this offseason and will return to Double-A to start the year.
