2025 Fantasy Outlook
A 6-foot-1 righty whose strike-throwing ability out-grades his stuff, Santos was added to the 40-man roster this offseason and projects to pitch in the Rangers' rotation long term, health permitting. He has three 50- to 55-grade pitches in his fastball, slider and changeup, and Santos has averaged over 100 innings per season since 2022. His 7.3 percent walk rate at Double-A was an excellent mark and portends at least above-average control for Santos long term. He threw 46 innings at Double-A in 2024, so he should spend the bulk of the year at Triple-A, and now that he's on the 40-man roster, he could be heard from in an emergency even if he's not fully developed. Shelved with back injury
Double-A Frisco placed Santos on its 7-day injured list Tuesday due to a stress reaction in his back, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Santos is projected to be on the shelf for at least 8-to-10 weeks. The 23-year-old right-hander is scheduled to receive a second opinion on his injury, but the expectation is that he'll treat the injury with rest and rehab rather than surgery. In his two starts this season for Frisco prior to suffering the injury, Santos had a 3.18 ERA with 11 strikeouts across 5.2 innings.
