                2025 Fantasy Outlook

Peralta's first season in San Diego was relatively uneventful, as he posted a 3.99 ERA and 1.20 WHIP while recording 11 holds over 46 appearances covering 38.1 innings. If there was one red flag to point out in his performance, it's that he posted a meager 13.6% strikeout rate, the lowest mark of his career. Peralta has never been a big strikeout pitcher though, and his fastball velocity remained around where it has been throughout his nine big-league seasons, so the dip in K rate isn't a major concern (especially since it came with one of the lowest walk rates - 8.0% - of his career). Peralta's specialty has always been inducing groundballs, and he continued to be one of the better relievers in the league at that skill last year. The southpaw should remain a lefty specialist for the Padres after exercising his player option for 2025, but his lack of punchouts in a setup role make him an uninspiring option in fantasy. Opening Friday
Peralta will open Friday's game against the Dodgers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
                  Analysis
Randy Vasquez is expected to handle the bulk of innings Friday, but it will be Peralta on the mound to face the formidable trio of Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Will Smith in the first inning of the series opener. The 34-year-old Peralta carries a 3.13 ERA and 1.34 WHIP through 54.2 innings on the year and will likely be limited to just one inning of work during his second career MLB start.

				2017
Peralta pitched 56.1 innings for the Yankees, his most in a season since 2017, and posted a personal best 2.72 ERA (2.86 FIP) and 1.05 WHIP. This lowered his career ratios to 4.07 and 1.38, respectively, to give you an idea of what his outputs were before his career year. The southpaw limited hard contact for the third consecutive sesaon, while inducing plenty of whiffs (92nd percentile) with his changeup and slider. However, Peralta's strikeout rate (21.1%) continues to fall below average and his ratios are likely to regress. Expect about 10-to-15 saves-plus-holds, but not much else.

                  Mets in pursuit
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports the Mets are going after left-handed relievers in free agency, with Peralta, who finished 2023 on the injured list with a triceps strain, being their current target.
                  Analysis
The 32-year-old was a reliable reliever for the Yankees over the past three seasons with a 2.82 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 165 appearances. Peralta's market hasn't seemed to be super active this offseason, but both the Yankees and Mets have been involved.
