Trevor Megill

Trevor Megill

32-Year-Old PitcherRP
Milwaukee Brewers
2026 Fantasy Outlook
In 2025, Megill established career-high marks for appearances (50), innings pitched (47), strikeouts (60), wins (six) and saves (30). While he didn't pitch enough innings to qualify, he still finished eighth in the league in saves. Surprisingly, the 32-year-old managed to stay healthy for a good chunk of the campaign, but was sidelined throughout much of September due to an elbow strain. Megill returned in time for the 2025 postseason, but didn't record any saves across five appearances. The towering right-hander relied less on his 99 mph fastball last season, opting to throw more knuckle-curves at a career-high 40 percent clip. Megill's .121 BAA and 48.9 percent whiff rate on the pitch were among the best in the league for that pitch type. While Megill currently sits atop Milwaukee's closer hierarchy, his durability history and the presence of Abner Uribe make him a risky bet for 30-plus saves again in 2026. On average, he's been the 13th closer off the board in early 2026 drafts. Read Past Outlooks

Earns fourth save
PMilwaukee Brewers
April 17, 2026
Megill earned the save in Friday's 7-5 extra-inning win over the Marlins, allowing one unearned run on one hit while striking out two in the 10th inning.
Analysis
Megill was tasked with protecting a three-run lead in the bottom of the 10th inning and did so despite allowing a run to score on a wild pitch. After yielding seven earned runs across consecutive appearances April 10 and 14, he's now picked up a hold and a save in back-to-back solid outings. Angel Zerpa and Abner Uribe, who earned the team's previous two saves, worked the eighth and ninth innings in that order Friday, so Megill's outlook as the team's closer remains murky for now.

This section compares his stats with all relief pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 30 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 30 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
  • K/BB
    Strikeout to walk ratio.
  • K/9
    Average strikeouts per nine innings.

2025
2024
2020
Megill emerged as a dependable late-inning reliever when healthy, pitching to a 2.72 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 50:14 K:BB across 46.1 innings. With Devin Williams absent for the first four months of the 2024 campaign, Megill got some well-deserved run as the Brewers' closer, ultimately leading the team with 21 saves and a 39.6 percent team save share. The 30-year-old right-hander ceded closing duties back to Williams upon his return, but remained a high-leverage fixture for Milwaukee. Megill mixed an upper-90's fastball with a knee-buckling knuckle curve that generated an MLB-best 55 percent whiff rate for that pitch type. While Megill established a new career-high with 48 appearances, he did miss some time on the injured list, once for a concussion plus another stint due to a back injury. With the Brewers trading Williams to the Yankees, Megill stands out as the current favorite to close for Milwaukee, but his durability is a concern.
After a poor spring, the Twins optioned Megill to Triple-A St. Paul to begin the season. Further struggles prompted the club to designate the reliever in late April. The Brewers acquired Megill from the Twins and sent him to Triple-A Nashville. Megill spent the rest of the season alternating between the minor and majors. While with the Brewers, Megill posted a 3.63 ERA over 34.2 innings, but a bloated .407 BABIP fueled an inflated 1.36 WHIP. Megill fanned 35.1 percent of batters, and yielded just two homers, so the excess traffic didn't hurt him too much. Megill throws a 99-mph four-seam fastball 72 percent of the time, mixing in the curve. Curiously, Megill's career BABIP is .393. Megill has the stuff to be late-inning reliever, but until he figures out to calm down his high hit rate, he'll likely work in lower leverage scenarios.
Making a difference as a Rule 5 draftee is a tall task, one the 6-foot-8 Megill has a chance to accomplish after being selected by the Cubs after being left off the Padres 40-man roster. Megill's 4.47 ERA and 1.50 WHIP last season for Triple-A El Paso don't tell the whole story. A bloated .411 BABIP inflated his hits and led to an ERA well over the associated 3.46 FIP and 3.41 xFIP. The Cubs are banking their infield defense along with Megill's dominant 32.3 percent strikeout rate helps fortify their bullpen. He's had injury issues, with a reconstructed elbow in college and bone spurs costing him the 2016 season. The health history has forced Megill to focus on relief, where his 95-mph fastball and power breaking stuff excel. He isn't likely to see late-inning duty right away, but his strikeouts play in NL-only formats and he could work his way into hold or even save opportunities down the line.

Could be moved
PMilwaukee Brewers
December 14, 2025
The Brewers continue to receive trade interest for Megill, reports Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Analysis
Milwaukee traded Nick Mears to the Royals this weekend, and the club could continue to deal from its bullpen, which is a position of strength. Megill is one of Milwaukee's top relief arms and posted a 2.49 ERA while recording 30 saves during the 2025 regular season, so there should be a number of teams interested in acquiring him.
