After spending his entire career with the Mets, Nido was released in mid-June. He was contributing his usual stellar defense, but the club decided to move on from his career .564 OPS. The Cubs signed Nido, and he split time behind the plate until spraining his knee and undergoing a debridement procedure in late July. He returned in mid-August but was released two weeks later. The Tigers signed Nido to a minor-league deal in September, then reupped the contract in January. Nido will compete with Dillon Dingler and Brian Serven to serve as Jake Rogers' backup. If Nido comes away with the job, he's an option in deep two catcher leagues after posting above average Hard-Hit and Barrel rates last season.

Nido was added to the big-league roster in early April after Rogers suffered the oblique injury, and the former performed well in 11 games with a .343/.361/.343 slash line in 37 plate appearances. The Tigers will presumably look to keep Nido in the organization, but he could receive some interest on waivers from teams in need of catching depth. Rogers is expected to serve as Detroit's secondary catcher with Dillon Dingler off to a hot start in 2025.
