2026 Fantasy Outlook
Tawa opened the year at Triple-A Reno before being recalled in early April to make his major league debut as an injury replacement for Ketel Marte. He was hitting just .190 when Marte returned in early May, but Tawa remained with the Diamondbacks after producing five homers, two steals, 10 runs and 10 RBI in 19 games. He spent most of the season with the club, though a month-long demotion in the second half interrupted his run. His production tailed off significantly, but above-average defense across the diamond helped preserve his roster spot. Tawa's defensive versatility gives him a path to a super-utility role, though a high strikeout rate and modest quality of contact limit his chances for sustained regular playing time. Read Past Outlooks
Roster spot shaky
Tawa started in left field and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and an RBI in Friday's 6-3 win over the Blue Jays.
Analysis
Tawa's run-scoring double in the eighth inning snapped an 0-for-16 skid and produced just his second RBI in 13 games. A season-opening slump (4-for-35, .114) has cost him playing time and makes Tawa an ideal candidate to be removed from the roster if Lourdes Gurriel (knee) is activated as expected this weekend. Jorge Barrosa can cover left field while Gurriel adjusts to game action as a DH in the majors.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Diamondbacks protected Tawa from the Rule 5 draft this winter, after the 25-year-old swatted 32 home runs with an .868 OPS between two minor-league stops in 2024. It should be noted that those numbers were heavily influenced by hitter-friendly parks in Amarillo and Reno. Tawa's value to the organization lay in his position versatility - he played every defensive position on the diamond except catcher - and as a right-handed bat for a lineup that leans lefty. He'll compete with the switch-hitting Ildemaro Vargas for a utility position during spring training.
