Tai Peete

20-Year-Old OutfielderOF
St. Louis Cardinals A+
2026 Fantasy Outlook
A former shortstop, Peete has emerged as a strong defensive center fielder in 2025, but his hit tool is still questionable. Peete flirted with a 20/20 season at High-A in his age-19 season (he turned 20 in August), finishing with a .217/.288/.404 slash line with 19 home runs and 25 steals in 125 games at High-A. While he was well below league average (79 wRC+), he has still shown reason to be patient in deeper dynasty leagues. His .282 BABIP was partially to blame for his mediocre slash line, and he encouragingly logged career-high flyball (39.5 percent) and pull (49.7 percent) rates while being the fifth-youngest qualified hitter at High-A. Peete will presumably head back to High-A in 2026 with a chance to spend most of the year at Double-A if he can trim last year's 30.6 percent strikeout rate. Read Past Outlooks

Hits for cycle in High-A game

April 17, 2026
Peete hit for the cycle in High-A Peoria's win over Wisconsin on Thursday.
Analysis
Peete actually had only one hit (a double) entering the seventh inning, but he was part of an offensive explosion late in the game and completed his cycle in the ninth with a triple. Acquired from the Mariners over the offseason in the Brendan Donovan trade, Peete is slashing .256/.360/.605 with three home runs and one stolen base in his first 10 contests with Peoria. The 20-year-old has a 26.0 percent strikeout rate, which is high but is down from last year's 30.6 percent mark. Making enough contact will likely be the determining factor in whether Peete reaches his high ceiling.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
A two-way player in high school who was initially drafted as a shortstop with the No. 30 overall pick in 2023, Peete will now head to center field full time in 2025. He spent his age-18 season as one of the youngest players at Single-A, slashing .269/.343/.408 with seven home runs, 45 steals, a 10.4 percent walk rate and a 30.7 percent strikeout rate in 115 games. Peete's plus speed is obvious, but he also has above-average power potential if he can make some adjustments. He's got breakout potential in 2025 as he heads to High-A and won't turn 20 until August, although he also has a low floor due to his propensity to strike out.
Peete intrigued as both a pitcher and shortstop in high school, but he suffered an elbow injury in August 2022 and never returned to the mound. Instead, the 6-foot-2, 193-pound lefty hitter from Georgia focused on shortstop and showed off his loud tools at the draft combine before Seattle took him with the 30th overall pick and handed him a $2.5 million bonus. Peete won't turn 19 until August, so he is one of the youngest, most projectable position players from this class. Peete has plus bat speed and projects to develop 20-plus homer power, although he has an aggressive approach. He slashed .283/.349/.404 with two home runs, six steals and a 27.5 K% in 24 games across the Arizona Complex League and Single-A, which is right in line with expectations. The mystery surrounding his elbow injury, which he never got surgery on, and questions about how much he'll hit and whether he'll outgrow shortstop, are reasons he didn't come off the board earlier, but Peete has a ton of tools -- he is also a plus runner -- and upside to dream on.
