Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
It's comical how much the Yankees have used the media to hype Jones, leaking that they would only trade him for someone like Paul Skenes at last year's trade deadline. We may soon get a chance to see how Jones' combination of loud physical tools and significant strikeout issues play at the highest level, as the 24-year-old will be added to the 40-man roster this offseason and played 67 games at Triple-A in 2025. He needed 188 games at Double-A over the course of three seasons to finally earn the promotion to Triple-A last summer, where he slashed .274/.342/.555 with 19 homers, 19 steals and a 36.6 percent strikeout rate. Jones logged a swinging-strike rate over 18 percent at Double-A in 2024 and 2025 and that rate jumped to a whopping 19.7 percent at Triple-A -- a mark that would have easily paced qualified big leaguers and would have placed him among the likes of Matt Mervis, Colby Thomas and Christopher Morel among unqualified hitters. Jones doesn't need to be much more than a .230 hitter to be a valuable fantasy piece, given his plus-plus power and plus speed, but he is more likely to hit around the Mendoza Line if pushed into regular duty in 2026. Launches first career home run
Jones went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's 3-2 win against Cleveland.
Analysis
Jones launched a 443-foot two-run shot off Slade Cecconi in the second inning that opened the scoring. It was his first career MLB homer, and it looked like anything but a young player finding his footing. After he hit .167 in ten games before he was sent back down, he's now hitting .500 across four games since being recalled. The strikeout rate has been a well-documented concern -- he posted a 32.4% strikeout rate at Triple-A this season -- so the plate discipline bears watching, but with how banged up New York's outfield is at the moment, Jones should see playing time for the foreseeable future.

How does Spencer Jones compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.
* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
If you just associate power and speed with upside with little consideration for a player's hit tool, Jones is a great prospect to roster in dynasty leagues. However, if you come at the idea of "upside" with a bit more nuance, Jones' flaws are almost as glaring as his strengths, and he projects to hit well below .250 in the majors. His 36.8 percent strikeout rate in 2024 was the highest mark among all qualified Double-A hitters, and he was only seven months younger than the average pitcher he faced. He slashed .259/.336/.452 with a .401 BABIP, 17 home runs and 25 steals in 122 games, and his production picked up (although his strikeout rate remained too high) as the level of competition got watered down later in the year. While Jones' raw power and speed are impressive, the 6-foot-6 lefty slugger's strikeout issues limit his realistic upside, especially in batting average leagues.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Was essentially untouchable
The Yankees wouldn't have considered trading Jones at the deadline last week unless it was a deal for Paul Skenes, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Analysis
New York was reportedly willing to include Jones in trades for the likes of ace pitchers Garrett Crochet or Tarik Skubal, but the organization's list of approved targets was apparently just one name. The 24-year-old outfielder was bumped up to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in late June and has been tearing the cover off the ball since the promotion, as he has a .353/.431/.794 slash line with 13 homers and 11 steals through just 26 games. Despite that dominance, Jones may not debut in 2025 given the Yankees' crowded outfield, especially with Aaron Judge now back from his elbow injury.
