2026 Fantasy Outlook
Perez signed a four-year deal prior to the 2022 season and has earned every bit of the money, making it an easy decision for Kansas City to exercise his club option for the 2026 season. Perez had an excellent 2025 season as a run producer, driving in 100 runs for the second consecutive season while hitting 30 homers for just the second time in his career. Perez's batting average took a tumble because he put more balls into play, and there are few batters in the league slower of foot than Perez. Kansas City has kept Perez fresher by limiting his time behind the plate to around 90 games a season in recent years, splitting the remaining games between first and DH. He is dual eligible in 2026, but his draft stock is fully driven by his catcher eligibility. Perez's volume will once again make him an above-average catcher, but the youth at the position is quickly passing him by. Slow and steady wins the race, and that is Perez in a nutshell. Perez has now hit at least 20 homers in each of the last eight full seasons, a streak last seen by a catcher when Brian McCann had a similar run from 2008 to 2016. McCann went on to hit 37 homers over the course of his final three seasons, as all those years of volume catching caught up to him. It is a lesson that Kansas City has given credence to, as Perez has kept his games played at catcher between 77 and 91 since a recent peak of 124 games in 2021. Perez retains his first base eligibility, as the Royals look to keep his bat in the lineup while keeping him fresh as long as possible. The effort was well-intended, but the Midwest summer heat is tough, and Perez saw his 125 first half wRC+ fall to 101 in the second half of the season. William Contreras was the only catcher to outproduce Perez in fantasy value last season, and we see little reason why Perez will not once again attempt to best that list in 2025. This time around, his ADP is not going to be a triple-digit number.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Expected back in KC in 2026
Perez is expected to be part of the Royals roster for the 2026 season, according to Jaylon Thompson of The Kansas City Star. "I think it's safe to say that one way or another, Salvy will be in a Royals uniform in '26," general manager J.J. Picollo said.
Analysis
The easiest path to seal Perez's return would be for the team to exercise the $13.5 million option on his current contract. However, Picollo didn't commit to that, meaning both parties could engage in talks to rework the deal during the offseason. The 35-year-old veteran has played all 15 of his big-league seasons with Kansas City and is a franchise icon. He hit .236 with 30 homers and 100 RBI in the 2025 season.
